Congratulations to ilene's gator store🎉

We’re excited to celebrate Ilene’s Gator Store for being recognized in the GAINESVILLE AREA CHAMBER Centennial Celebration 1924-2024 Magazine as a Milestone Member of the Greater Gainesville Chamber of Commerce since 1960! 🏆

Their story began in 1935 with The Collegiate Men’s Shop, which later became Silverman’s for Men and Women, and continues today under Ilene's passionate leadership at Ilene’s for Fashion. Her dedication keeps this family legacy alive, and we’re proud to call her our neighbor here in Shoppes At Thornebrook. ❤️

We were so fortunate that in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene our Renaissance Printing location was only without power for about 24 hours. We had no other damage, although many of our coworkers did lose power for multiple days.
In less than two weeks following Helene, Hurricane Milton just skirted Alachua County. We certainly dodged the brunt of the storm. We had no power outage this time and were able to resume operations very quickly. We know that many of our clients suffered much larger disruptions to their lives, businesses and property, we hope that they are able to fully recover soon!

➡️ Q: Can you tell us a little bit about your role and responsibilities?
A: I would say, I am the person who keeps the gears moving, making sure that the staff has everything they need to do their job successfully.

➡️ Q: How long have you been with the company and what prompted you the join the company?
A: I have been with Renaissance Printing for 30+ years. I had recently moved to Florida from Buffalo, New York, with a degree in journalism, which included a broadcasting specialty.

➡️ Q: What hobbies do you enjoy outside of work?
A: I have many things that make me happy. Hiking in the woods, gardening, bicycling, coin-collecting, and listening to music are among a few of my favorite's.

➡️ Q: What values or principles do you believe are at the core of the company’s success?
A: One of the values that I think is essential to the company, is the sense of “ownership” we have with every project from start to finish. We also value passion, honesty, confidentially, integrity, and creating personal relationships.

➡️Q: What is your favorite company tradition or event and why?
A: Back in the day we played softball with our company team. Our team name was the “The Flying Pigs”

➡️ Q: What are you most excited about in terms of the company’s future?
A: There have been so many technological advances since 1993 in the printing industry. It will be interesting to see where the next 10 years will take us. I enjoy training our younger generation to see what they can add to our current knowledge base and, seeing what new ideas they come up with.

"Growing up I lived on and off between Jacksonville and Gainesville. My parents divorced and I thought it would be a bad gig to go between cities but Jax has something and Gainesville has something – completely different pace of life between the two. But I love Gainesville – it’s an interesting town, you meet some interesting people here – Vietnam Vets, Hare Krishnas, all kinds - lots of educated, enlightened people here.”

“I was a waiter in Sarasota but had a dream to come back here and buy property. So I moved to Lake City - the only place anywhere near here that I can afford. I really enjoy being back in Gainesville, it’s got a lot of nostalgia, since I’ve been away for like 15 years – I’m 35 now.”

“I had seen this place when I was a kid and even knew someone who worked at Target Copy which is our sister company. So it was serendipitous that it was one of the first places I applied. Bob Oetter, the owner, is an incredible dude. We did the interview, really hit it off, and I started working here really quickly. Renaissance Printing is a great place to work. This is a very old school - they are very loyal to their employees, we get great benefits, management is incredibly considerate, whether it’s medical or taking time off - probably the best company I’ve ever worked for.”

“I ride track bikes which are fixed gear bikes that originated from the velodrome in Japan. I learned that whole culture here in Gainesville when I was a kid. Track biking is great for urban environments. You go from a stop to a start going a single speed - it feels different because the derailleur isn’t engaging – so it’s like direct drive. There’s criterion racing which can be indoor or out but very tight, elbow to elbow, very tight turns, and almost always fixed gear. It’s like a scavenger hunt through the city - usually there’s someone who stamps your card. If you don’t know the city you’re at a disadvantage. Some people put their bikes on their shoulders and will run through a mall if that’s the fastest way. Most of us connect via Discord server - there are weird group names like Zombie Bikes, they have meet-ups, and people contact each other to race together just for fun.”

🌟 Gator Nation Shines at the 2024 Paris Olympics! 🌟

The 2024 Paris Olympics wrapped up last week, and we couldn’t be prouder of the UF Gator athletes who competed and represented the University of Florida on the world stage! 🐊🏅

In our lobby, we’ve displayed a special banner celebrating all Gators who participated in this year’s Olympics. Here are some fun facts about their incredible achievements:

🏅Gators won 11 medals across two sports: swimming ( 8 ) and track & field ( 3 ).
🏅Florida’s 11 medals placed them at No. 11 among all NCAA programs.
🏅If the Gator Nation were a country, it would have tied for 16th in the total medal count, with 11 medals (4 gold, 4 silver, 3 bronze)—tying for 16th place among 84 nations that earned a medal!
🏅A record-breaking 41 Gators competed in Paris, the most ever in a single Olympic Games, representing eight sports: Basketball (including 3v3), Diving, Golf, Gymnastics, Soccer, Swimming, Tennis, and Track & Field.
🏅Florida ranked No. 4 among NCAA programs for the number of representatives and led the Southeastern Conference!

A couple of years before Renaissance Printing we use to have a location called University Copy Center! Back then, as with any business, having loyal clients was key to survival. One such client the UCC had was Southern Bell - a phone company who relied on us for their essential phone book updates. Before computers took over, we manually managed daily changes for telephone connects and disconnects used by phone operators.

For six years straight, Monday through Friday, we met every deadline without fail. This partnership wasn't just a contract; it was a cornerstone that helped build University Copy Center. The revenue from Southern Bell sustained us, covering rent and laying the groundwork for our future growth.

Today, with advanced technology, tasks like these are a breeze. Back then there was a lot more manual labor involved. Thank you Southern Bell for helping us during our formative years. 📞📒
