It’s time to enjoy the fruits of your labor! Sit back and relax! So, from the entire staff at the Garden Station, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support! Text, message or email me if you have any questions. We’ll see you in the fall for Customer Appreciation Day!
Rain rain go away, I guess we’ll have to extend our plant sale another day! We still have lots of plants left. We open at 9:00 am. Plants are 50% off. Non-plant items are 20% off.
PLEASE SHARE THIS POST! My friend Avery stopped by to help me announce the end of season sale. This Friday, June 28th, all plants, including perennials, will be 50% off and most non-plant items will be 20% off. I’ll open my doors early, at 7:00 am to accommodate those who are working. Come early, plants sell out quickly!
These two dressed alike cuties, just finished story time at the library. Now a couple flower pots and plants too and you can call it a fun day.
Want to add some zing to your deck or pool area? Try fast growing banana trees. The picture on the left are the tropical variety and there are at least two to a container. They can be easily divided. The one on the right is hardy in this zone.
I think this might work! Marilyn gave me larkspur seeds and I was considering where I might plant them when I found myself standing in front of my iris bed. I planted them among my iris and now this area has two separate blooming times. One does not bother the other, in fact they seem happy together, unlike my cats!
An awesome young man I know, sent me pictures of his garden confinement. I saw it as he was designing and building it. It’s located in German Town Hills and I would say it’s deer proof! This project was labor intensive and he used recycled materials as much as possible. You can’t tell from these pictures, but he even has fruit trees! He and his father came to the shop for veggies and I am honored to have my plants in his garden. I’ll post pictures as every thing grows. Great job Eric!
Our hydration specialist, David has planted up precious milkweed. He has seven available right now. They are $7.00 each.
I hope those who bought the “mini me” cucumbers are enjoying them. I’ve been eating them right off the vine! Great taste. Pick them when they are about thumb size. The ones in the picture were left a little longer on the vine, but they still taste great.
It’s 4:00 pm and Greta just finished art class at Art Define. She is all excited and full of energy. No one told her it’s 91 degrees and 1000% humidity! Remember when we were that way?!
I have sold out of my Black and Gold Potting Mix, but have a few bags of Proven Winners left. Farm King has Black and Gold at about $15.00 a bag. That’s a good price. It would be worth stocking up with a few bags for next year.
If you know me, you know that I am very judgmental when it comes to potting soil. You spend a lot for good flowers, and it’s important that good quality potting soil be used. I have seen some of my customers struggling with this issue. Any soil with moisture control should be avoided! Some brands are putting way too much fiber into their mix. If you feel like you are potting in sawdust, you probably are.
Our phlox is starting to bloom. Mildew resistant, and being a little shorter than old fashioned varieties, you’ll be able enjoy the blooms without having to stake them up.
Her name is Fern. She’s so excited to buy a baby fern. I don’t know about you, but my heart just melted and is lying in a puddle at her feet!
Old toolbox filled with succulents. $39.95.
Mia is planting our sign.
Potting up black angelonia with a new tiny petunia.
Avery is so sad because people are stealing the flowers from the downtown city pots. Over 50 have needed to be replaced. Someone also stole perennials and a butterfly bush from a memorial garden in Lincoln Park. The city containers and the park gardens are enjoyed by everyone, especially those who cannot afford flowers or live where having flowers is not possible. Whoever is stealing from all of us, remember, there is a phenomenon called Karma!
One of our gardening friends has been busy here at the shop potting up some pretty containers. She claims it helps her unwind. It works for me!
One of our customers is getting a little something extra with their cerveza ‘n lime plant! She is excited to nurture both!
I found a couple of gardening buddies at the shop today. Anyone would be lucky to have these two lend a hand!
We have free canna bulbs available again this year provided by one of our gardening friends. They are the traditional tall red ones. First come first served.
I had fun potting flowers with Thomas from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources today. I feel it’s good luck to pot flowers in the rain. It’s kind of a good flower karma thing! LOL! These pots are destined for the Sandburg cottage. Thomas told me about the concerts they host there. I need to go and enjoy those.
On of my cacti bloomed! It smells amazing!
Meet Marilyn, retired teacher but not retired from teaching. She is magical with the kids and when she is explaining the wonders of a certain plant, we are all in awe of her!
Meet Jen our resident floral expert and new grandma! I know which roll she loves best and it’s not telling me what the name of the houseplants are that I just bought!
This little cutie outshines that beautiful red geranium.
I ordered in 7 larger size lemon, lime and orange trees. They are self pollinating so you only need one to get fruit. Put out on your sunny deck for summer and bring inside for the winter. I have three left after first day. One each of the lemon, lime and orange. $140.00 each.
These two bros are “helping” Dad buy flowers! They exude as much cuteness as they do energy!
Twisted Chicken is here! Leslie has set up her beautiful art infused jewelry! Come check her out and also see all our beautiful flowers.
Hmmmmm. I thought I planted catnip.
