On Saturday Quilts of Valor (QOV) presented quilts to Val Adams and Raymond Mueller.

Valentine Adams, a former Air Force Combat Medic and talented artist, is installing a massive statue that he created over 350 hours, a warrior wielding a mega gun in honor of the veterans who lay their lives on the line so we can be free. This massive statue is being installed at the Veterans Home across from the American Legion Gallatin Post 17 on South Water St. Thank you Val for everything that you do for veterans, and the community at large.

Tennessee is one of many states that recognizes Women’s Veterans Day. It’s to commemorate the date that President Truman signed the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act on June 12, 1948! Prior to that date, only nurses could serve as regular members of the Armed Services.

Taxis to Hell – and Back – Into the Jaws of Death is a photograph taken on June 6, 1944, by Robert F. Sargent, a chief photographer's mate in the United States Coast Guard. The men of the 16th Infantry Regiment, US 1st Infantry Division wading ashore from their landing craft on Omaha Beach on the morning of 6 June 1944. Thousands of 18 year old solders, not knowing if they will be alive one hour from now. This can not be forgotten. It makes all of our personal day to day problems look like nothing and ridiculous to complain about. And please remember every single person that wore a uniform since then was, and is prepared to do the same thing.

Support Our Heroes: Jay Bob's Country Kitchen and Starstruck Farm’s Patriotic Pledge

This June, in honor of National PTSD Awareness Month, Jay Bob's Country Kitchen is proud to announce a heartfelt initiative to support our brave veterans. We are pledging to donate 10% of all sales for the month of June, as well as from ticket sales for our spectacular Independence Day events at Starstruck Farm, to the Wounded Warrior Project. https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/

National PTSD Awareness Month, recognized by the U.S. Senate in 2014, is a time for us to come together to raise awareness about Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. This month, let's spread helpful information, participate in fundraisers, and take time to learn more about PTSD and its impact on our heroes.

Join us at Jay Bob's Country Kitchen to enjoy our delicious, homestyle meals knowing that a portion of your purchase will directly support those who have sacrificed so much for our freedom. Additionally, our Independence Day events at Starstruck Farm promise fun and festivity, all while contributing to a noble cause.

Mark your calendars and get ready to celebrate with us. Together, we can make a difference. The highlight of our celebration will be the awarding of a check to the Wounded Warrior Project during our Independence Day events, showing our gratitude and support for our veterans.

Come dine with us, enjoy the festivities, and stand with us in supporting the Wounded Warrior Project. Your participation helps us give back to those who have given us so much. Let's make this June a month of awareness, generosity, and patriotism.

And that's not all. We will donate 10% of all tickets for our Independence Day Extravaganza to Wounded Warrior Project and present them the check during festivities on July 4th at 6:30PM.

Post History

The John T. Alexander American Legion Post 17 serves Sumner County Tennessee and is located in Gallatin is the result of the ideas and desires of those fostered in Paris, France by the one thousand officers and enlisted men of the American Expeditionary Force of World War I in March 1919. After a second organizing caucus held in St. Louis, MO in May 1919 the U.S. Congress granted the American Legion its charter which then granted its charter to the Department of Tennessee.

A group of veterans from Sumner County applied for its charter which was granted in August 1919. The permanent charter was revised in 1924.

John T. Alexander Post 17 was named in honor of the first Sumner County resident who died in World War I. He served as a Private in the U.S. Army.

Throughout John T. Alexander Post 17’s history, our organization has met the responsibilities of the American Legion by dedicating ourselves, as veterans, to serving veterans in need, their widows and orphans, upholding and defending the Constitution of the United States of America, promoting Americanism and Patriotism, community service, support of charities and civic affairs, and all activities associated to God and Country while educating and teaching young people to be responsible and capable leaders of the future.
