Sumner County CASA
A non profit that recruits and trains volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children. Sumner County CASA is a non-profit, United Way agency.
CASA recruits community volunteers and trains them to become the voices of alleged abused or neglected children in the juvenile court system. Volunteers are appointed to serve kids that are in the custody of the state of TN and Sumner County CASA volunteers are also appointed to children that are at risk of entering custody. The court system appoints CASA to a child’s case when there are concerns
It's National Nonprofit Day! We’re honored to serve the children in our area through our CASA program. 💙 You, too, can play a crucial role in changing their lives.

Our Sumner County students returned to school this week and officially marked the end of summer break. We celebrated the end of our unofficial summer of adoptions last week with the adoption of a precious 18 month old boy, our 6th adoption hearing since May! He’s been with his adoptive family since birth and came home to them from the hospital. He is thriving and we are so excited for his future, though he was a little out of sorts on the day of the hearing. Our CASA volunteer was with him from the very beginning and will likely continue to get updates as he grows.
Permanency doesn’t always mean adoption, but there is something special about the official declaration by the judge creating a new family in this way and we love to see it!

Happy Family Day! 💙 Every child deserves the chance to grow up in a happy and healthy family. CASA volunteers work tirelessly to give children who have experienced abuse and neglect a voice, helping them find safe and loving homes.
As amazing as her immense skill and work ethic and talent are, what’s most extraordinary is her family history and all that she had overcome to even be in this position. We were talking in the office the other day that she and her sister could’ve been some of our CASA kids, easily. The difference that it makes when families step up and kids have stability cannot be underestimated.

Happy Wednesday! What better way to brighten up the midweek doldrums than to celebrate another adoption? Two more CASA kiddos woke up today in their forever home, with their adoption finalized yesterday. These precious girls were fortunate enough to have been adopted by the first foster family with whom they were placed with in 2022. Our volunteer was assigned within the first three months of their placement and has been thrilled to watch them grow and develop over the past few years. They have been thriving in their family, school and community and now it’s permanent. We are so happy for them and the lifetime of memories they will make! (Photos shared with permission)

Somewhat unexpectedly, but excitedly, it has become the summer of adoptions! This week, we celebrated our fourth adoption since May and have two more scheduled for later this month! The process can be so long and then, all of a sudden, it is scheduled and forever begins!
This young man is one who has sort of flown under the radar; he’s been stable in his foster placement, made a lot of progress in school and socially and is just a great kid. He’s really grown and matured over the 2+ years that we’ve had the honor to work with him and has bonded so well with his adoptive dad. He has overcome a rough beginning and has big plans for his future. We are thrilled for him and all that he will do as he enters adulthood in the next few years.
His CASA volunteer has been with him throughout this process and wouldn’t miss the adoption for anything. Our teens in foster care are really a special group and don’t always get the same opportunities for permanency that some of our younger kids do, so we are always a little extra excited when forever comes true.

The path to permanency is sometimes a fairly straight line, with a child ultimately being adopted by the first foster family with whom they were placed . And, sometimes, it takes a different route, with multiple placements that don’t work out for one reason or another. The right fit can sometimes be felt immediately and sometimes takes longer to reveal itself.
This week, we were excited to celebrate an adoption based on a relationship that has strengthened over time and a family that has made a commitment to be in it for the long haul. No one knows exactly what the future holds, but this week, they made a commitment to face it together and we are always honored to have a small part in it. Our CASA volunteer has traveled all over middle Tennessee to be with this kiddo wherever she was and again this week for the adoption.
