Juneteenth is a holiday commemorating the emancipation of those who had been enslaved in the U.S. It started in Galveston, Texas & is now celebrated every year on June 19 across the U.S.

The Houston/Galveston area is forecast to experience potentially severe winter weather early next week.

Galveston ISD will actively monitor the weather situation throughout the weekend. There are no plans for scheduling changes at this time. Any updates regarding the school schedule for Tuesday, Jan. 16, will be posted Monday afternoon by 5 p.m. The district will utilize its notification system, as well as social media and Remind, to inform parents of any necessary schedule changes.

Galveston ISD actively monitors developing weather events and consults local weather and emergency management officials when considering school delays or closures. Decisions regarding school closures are always made with the safety of students and staff as the top priority.
