Eating seasonally offers significant benefits for both the environment and personal health, yet it is a practice that most people have strayed from due to the year-round access to all produce at supermarkets.

Consuming in-season food reduces the energy required for transportation, lowers greenhouse gas emissions, and is also more affordable since it doesn't incur high shipping costs. Buying local produce supports local farmers, keeps money within the community, and helps create jobs, fostering economic growth.

Additionally, in-season foods require fewer chemicals, such as preservatives and wax coatings, because they don't need to endure long transport or extended storage. This also leads to less waste from packaging.

You can find fresh, local produce at farmers markets such as the ones listed in our graphics!

Community • Acceptance • Success

Congratulations to Bryan McKenzie, an easy-going, encouraging, and dependable CAS employee who has been nominated by his peers to be recognized in Faces of CAS as someone who upholds and maintains CAS’ values.

His career with CAS began in August 2013 where he worked as a cook at Mary Jemison Dining Complex through March 2017. During this time, Bryan showcased his hard work and dedication to cooking. It was evident that Bryan truly enjoyed his work, and so he was promoted to Chef Assistant, working at various dining facilities throughout his time, including the old CAS food truck “Chow Hound,” Red Jacket, as well as Mary Jemison. In August 2024, Bryan was once again promoted, this time donning the title Culinary Supervisor at Letchworth Dining Complex.

Bryan finds satisfaction and enjoyment being able to aid the various dining complexes on campus. Extending a helping hand to those in need is not uncommon to see him do. In fact, this past summer, Bryan was part of a group of CAS staff members that volunteered time to help out at a local food pantry.

“My experience at the food pantry was awesome,” said Bryan. “It was such a great experience, I actually signed up to volunteer more when I am available.”

Those who have worked alongside Bryan throughout his career at CAS are more than aware of the positive impact he’s brought to the team. He keeps the mood light with conversations, jokes, and more throughout the work day. It doesn’t matter if you’ve known him for a day or a year, Bryan will always address you as if you’re a longtime friend. Even if you’re having a difficult day, Bryan is sure to cheer you up.

“Bryan is very patient with fellow coworkers, especially those he knows are struggling,” said a peer. “He’s often lifting them up and encouraging them.”

Bryan sends his utmost thanks to his peers that nominated him to be recognized in Faces of CAS.

Congratulations, Bryan!

Representatives from the Campus Auxiliary Services administrative, culinary, and marketing teams attended the 2024 NACUFS National Conference held in Louisville, Kentucky from July 17–20, when all award recipients were officially recognized. All attendees participated in daily learning sessions to enhance their culinary knowledge and skills, with discussion topics including sustainability, community engagement, special dietary needs, leadership, enhancing your cooking, and more. Each session was carefully crafted to ensure that those in attendance received the tools necessary to enhance their ability to better serve their campus communities.

The CAS team had the opportunity to network with attendees from colleges and universities located throughout the United States. This conference presented all teams with a chance to share ideas on college dining, connect, and create everlasting relationships. This event also allows campus dining to explore and discover various brands in the dining industry, testing their products and partnering to bring new products to their respective college campuses.

Campus Auxiliary Services strives to provide everyone who steps foot in our dining locations with an enjoyable, delicious, and nutritious meal. Our services and offerings are constantly evolving to meet the diverse dietary needs of our campus community. Events such as NACUFS allow our team to explore fresh new options and ideas that accommodate special dietary needs, as well as provide everyday customers with an array of nutritious food options.

Campus Auxiliary Services, an affiliate of the SUNY Geneseo Division of Finance and Administration, is proud to continue to provide our employees with various opportunities to learn and grow in their professional careers.
