Welcome and thank you to Hilda Gutiérrez '03, who will serve as our keynote speaker at the Hispanic/Latine Heritage Month Kick-Off today on campus.

Hilda Gutiérrez, a native of the Rio Grande Valley and daughter of Mexican immigrants, has devoted her career to advancing social change, informed by her own experiences. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Feminist Studies from Southwestern University, a master’s degree in Latin American Studies from the University of New Mexico, and is a certified professional with the Society for Human Resource Management.

Currently, Hilda is the Director of Equity and Engagement at Feeding Texas. In this role, she works closely with food banks and social justice organizations to address hunger. Her efforts are centered on improving community engagement and supporting food and farm businesses through the Rio Grande Colonias USDA Regional Food Business Center.

The Class of 2025 took over District Six yesterday for the first Senior Social of the year! The countdown has started to welcome them as into the Southwestern University Alumni Association!

Gabriella Gonzalez Biziou '12, comes back to Texas this month to promote Foolhardy Love, a short film she stars in and associate-produced. The story follows a couple confronted with two very different desires for their future. Foolhardy Love screens in Austin at the Austin Under the Stars Film Festival on Thursday, Sept 12 at 7:30 pm, and Austin Spotlight Film Festival on Saturday, Sept 14 at 7 pm. It’s been nominated for Best Narrative (at both festivals), Best Director, Best Actress (at both festivals), and Best Actor.
