Kyle & Cortney
Over the last 32 years The Pub has been a stepping stone to so many in their walk in life. I have seen them step in under our roof as babies, cheerfully open minded and full of vigor. I love being a cheerleader for everyone who is enthusiastic to go after life with a vengeance. But I also love to push some that I know can soar to heights, unbeknownst them.
This is the case of Kyle & Cortney Group. They are brother & sister, both putting in their applications the same day in the spring of 2018. Cortney was a sophomore in college and Kyle was a sophomore at Biglerville High School with my son Wyatt.
The days are gone when kids in school worked for a business and stayed dedicated through college. Our foundation was built on these kinds of relationships, as most small businesses. Yet it’s evolution, things change and we must bend with the times.
The story I am about to tell you is out of my love & respect for these two.
Both have huge footprints here at The Pub. They have contributed in their work ethics but also with their very happy dispositions. Neither one ever comes to work cranky nor disrespectful. They bring a happy smile 😃 and positive attitude daily.
Both have stepped up to the plate when positions needed filled.
I pushed Cortney years ago to be a bartender. Of course she was scared, but I felt she had what it takes to represent The Pub on the bar side. She makes everyone feel welcomed with her warm smile and beautiful twinkling eyes. When she graduated from college we needed an office manager, she stepped up to the plate with a confident sense of professionalism to run our office. After a year of managing the office, Cortney decided she wanted to try something new. She enrolled in Williamsport trade school to pursue her dream of being a dental hygienist.
Cortney is in her last year of college, she has stayed dedicated to The Pub coming home weekends and working the summers.
As for Kyle, his is an interesting and humorous story☺️
Two years ago, trying to guide the restaurant through the pandemic 😷, we were very short staffed. Kyle was front-of-the-house staff, bussing & expediting food. We were very short staffed in the kitchen, I had Kyle and my son transferred to the kitchen to learn to cook, neither were happy about this change, the first week 😠. But then something happened, they had fun and they were good at what they were doing! Both young men excelled at cooking 🧑🏼🍳
Kyle enjoyed it so much that he transferred from Shippensburg as a sophomore where he was studying business to Williamsport with his sister to study the the culinary arts to become a Chef 👨🍳
Kyle, like his sister, will be finishing his last year at Williamsport. Kyle did a internship in Italy 🇮🇹 this summer working in some amazing kitchens. Kyle has gone up to The John Gross Company to work with their in-house chef/saleswoman to learn how to put a recipe together.
It takes a village 🥰
We are excited & honored to have Kyle make his favorite Italian dish this Thursday, August 8th from 5-8:30 pm. Kyle will be preparing
“Rosa di Parma”
This Italian dish showcases a delectable blend of pork loin, prosciutto, Parmesan cheese, and aromatic herbs, topped with a white wine pan sauce served with a side of red skinned mashed potatoes😋🇮🇹🧑🏼🍳🏆
I am so very proud & appreciative of these two young adults❣️
I know our time is coming to an end for their chapter here at The Pub. Our book is full of many chapters of staff members who have made a difference here. So many stories and so much admiration to the ones who stepped through The Pub on their way to write their own book on life🏆
I hope you can make it in Thursday to support and be a cheerleader 📣 for Kyle and or course Cortney.

Meet Lisa Grim, owner of The Pub and Restaurant in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
In 1996, Lisa took over ownership of the restaurant and brought forth her vision of The Pub. Since then, the restaurant has gone through two renovations, one due to the restaurant being engulfed in flames in 2001.
One of Lisa’s strong beliefs is “It takes a village, and we have amazing people in our village. With that comes lots of patience to allow people to have their margin of personality, to be accepting, and to also have compassion as life has layers.
Coach K says that people have layers of life, sometimes you have to dig deep for their heart. We ALL have a heart, and when you dig deep through those layers of life, you find that heart… what a beautiful thing to find. We all want acceptance and love… we just need to BELIEVE” - Lisa Grim
