Tennis authorities violated law and human decency by forcing Osaka out of the French Open Naomi Osaka is a phenomenal tennis player who is trying to manage a health condition. She asked for a reasonable accommodation and instead got threats.
A profile in courage. Anyone who has known and/or worked with a professional athlete can get a sense of the pressure they experience to always be on and performing. Naomi Osaka prioritized her emotional health despite the anticipated backlash. Naomi is my hero.
Tennis Star Naomi Osaka Stood Up For Herself, Bravely Shared Her Mental Health Issues And Walked Away From The French Open In the effort of self-care, Osaka said she’d "take some time away from the court." The tennis player shared with her followers that she had "suffered long bouts of depression" since winning her first Grand Slam title in 2018.
Art With Impact is sponsoring a week of free films on "underrepresented topics related to mental health." They will be shown virtually the week of June 21-25, 2021. Registration is free and open to the public. This set of films is exclusively focused on BIPOC and immigrant experiences. Please spread the word. This organization is doing a lot to remove bias and stigma related to mental health and minority groups through college and university presentations around the country.
