Out for a morning stroll with a dear friend in Houston. Who knows this one? Hint: medicinal & boosts the immune system yet tastes better as tea than in a stir fry…
When faced with food that may have little nutritional value or taste try flavoring it with Oregano for added benefits.

We all can agree July was brutally hot!
Thoughts while observing the sage plant this morning:
“Wow the heat stimulated so much new growth. Maybe I should pick off the dead leaves, it would be so much prettier”
“Wait, maybe the dead leaves are actually providing shade of some kind to help the new growth?”
I have no idea the answer to that question but it makes sense in some way.
I’ve had quite a few clients with loss lately, grief is a strong emotion that can require gentle attention. Maybe, just maybe, we there is some “shade” provided by our losses.
When was your last loss? What provided you “shade” to help comfort you back to your feet through the brutal heat?
P.s. I left the dead leaves, at least for the time being.
I always knew strawberries as a bush not a tree! Delicious anti-oxidant rich food. More Vitamin C than you would think packed into this fruit.
😍😍
Our neighbors have been super kind letting us indulge in their Calamansi limes. Picking these cute sour treats has been a pleasure to the start of my day. I’ve been simply squeezing them into warm water. Calamansi limes have properties to gently break up mucous, offer anti-inflammatory benefits, and give a great start to good nutrition for the day - 27 mg of vitamin C, 6 mg iron, 37 mg Potassium.
I even found my son making himself a nice warm cup of lime water last night. He said it was helping break up some allergy mucous in his throat.
How could you squeeze a little more natural sourced Vitamin C into your diet?
Super blessed to have this Naturopathic Doctor in my life. As a friend, mentor & doctor. Dr. Swan, ND is a gem. Got to spend time with her last week getting a Naturopathic pep talk regarding this crazy allergy season.
Biggest recommendation from this elder Naturopathic doctor is to limit or avoid dairy.
It may not even be an allergy. Dairy in general is wet and moist therefore mucous promoting. I’ve heard this from her before, heard it many times in school and even from the Ayurvedic doctors when I was in India.
Dairy can be great, good for bones, great protein yet there is a time and place and this mucousy allergy season is not it!
May you see the beauty in the flowers of this spring not the pollen!
Earthstar is a common group name for this beautiful mushroom. Although my eyes have been trained to find mushrooms in nature since I started to walk it took my dog pooping right next to one to actually see it in an uncharacteristic area of my neighborhood. Once one was spotted they showed up everywhere! Lesson learned - slow down & observe, you never know what you just might get to see.
This mushroom is not edible to my knowledge however I’ve read it has been used as necklaces for protection.

A beautiful Easter gift from a client. No need to dye these, they come natural with beauty and color. I was told this is the farmette’s typical daily egg production!
Egg fun: These are fertile eggs meaning they contain both male and female cells allowing the potential to replicate into creating baby chicks. Female chickens (hens) can produce eggs without fertilization from males. These eggs are termed non-fertile eggs meaning they do not have the potential to hatch into baby chicks.(1)
I’ve met people that are typically vegan (plant based eating) yet will make and exception for non-fertile eggs as a good protein source. The source below stated eggs can contain 6-7 grams of protein and even B12 which can be a common nutritional deficiency of plant based eaters(2).

Happy Easter!
We all have our happy place. Right now, mine is my spring garden. It is small - 3 feet by 6 feet, especially in comparison to the farm garden I was raised with but I'm learning little things can bring so much joy.
There is a new blog post up:

Tried throwing wildflower seeds in the backyard to see if anything would happen. It was an extraordinary rainy winter in the desert and the first signs of spring have been beautiful
Sorry to those still buried in snow!

Valentine’s day gifts don’t get much better than this!
First harvest of broccoli and Calendula from a patient's garden.
Can’t wait to sauté the broccoli in water and lace it with ghee and use the Calendula as a tea but first, just enjoying the fresh harvest:)
Happy Valentines day. May your day be filled with beauty and abundance.
This blog post was inspired by my High Intensity Interval Training instructor who stated she was gifting us low-lunges for Christmas.
My train of thinking was something like "What can I gift my friends that tones the thighs yet is a little painful to get through?" "I know, let's talk about sugar!"
Consider this is your warning to read on with caution especially if you're already planning for many trips to the dessert table.
Happy Holidays, may they be Merry

Happy Thanksgiving🙏🏻 May your day & holiday season be filled with sweetness, joy, light, prosperity & abundance
Thanks to for the no fuss centerpiece!
I had the opportunity today to observe a whole semi load of turkeys (900 I was told) delivered to an entire community in need. As I watched the cars line up and down the streets and the joy of the delivery people it made me think…
So often in my profession I hear “eat this protein, eat that protein” Instead what if we started our protein opinions with “I’m so grateful I get to eat” and then (if possible), move into to; “what protein is the best for my body” & “how does this protein make me feel”?
Maybe then yogi’s and hunters could get along?
Raw meat/eggs, pea and rice, venison and buffalo, wild caught salmon and more all have had their waves of fad protein since I’ve been a doctor. Soon it will be cricket so maybe we should be happy with the tofurkey!
Whatever protein you chose this Thanksgiving may it be delightful and joyous
