It provides local visibility for NASW membership and recruitment, participates in professional practice and social justice advocacy initiatives and ethics adjudications, and provides information on NASW policies and services, both to members and social work consumers. and NASW Virginia mourn the death of Social Work Pioneer Dr. Bernice Harper at the age of 102. We offer her family and friends our condolences. Dr. Harper spent her life breaking barriers. She was one of the first women of color to earn a master’s degree in from Harvard University. She was the first Black female and out-of-state student at the USC School of Social Work in Los Angeles. Dr. Harper later became founding president of the Foundation for Hospice in sub-Saharan Africa. Hear her tell her amazing story.

The 2025 NASW Virginia and Metro DC Annual Conference will convene in-person at the Doubletree Hotel, located in beautiful, historic Charlottesville, Virginia on March 13-15, 2025. The virtual live conference will convene in April/May 2025 with specific dates forthcoming.
