June is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder(PTSD) Awareness Month. PTSD can impact anyone of any age after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. A study found a notable increase the prevalence of PTSD and acute stress disorder in college students in the US, rising by 4.1 percentage points and 0.5 percentage points from 2017 to 2022. This event included practice & exposure to interdisciplinary teams, professional development, practitioner skill-building, a site visit, and collaborative advocacy training.

This year fellows had the opportunity to travel to their mentors and experience "A day in the life of a Psychologist". I thoroughly enjoyed my site visit to the Asian Pacific Family Center in Rosemead, CA with one of my MFP mentors, Dr. Terry Gock. We're looking forward to our next site visit, which will be located at Little Priest Tribal College in Winnebago, NE on 4/10/24. Through partnership with Belinda Hinojos, President Manoj Patil and Little Priest Tribal College staff, we are hosting another “Careers in Behavioral Health Panel” to showcase the various paths available to students. The panel will include Native and Indigenous experts in the interdisciplinary behavioral health fields.
