Itโs a good day when one of your besties shows up with an Olympian sized GORGEOUS trailer to help bring the rest of the herd home from camp. Thank you both so so much and David, your ninja trailer driving skills are unmatched. The big boys got to ride in style today and they were loving it!
Good morning & happy Sunday ๐ค
Letโs go pick up camp ๐๏ธ horses ๐ and bring them home to The HEART Center ๐ซถ๐ผ
Amazing things are happening around here for our micro school students! The H.E.A.R.T. Center has 3 open spots now available in our Micro-Highschool with the launch of our incredible new partnership with WonderEd!
Now students who benefit most from learning at a school like ours vs a traditional classroom learning structure - have the opportunity to complete their high school program with us and earn an accredited academic diploma! This is HUGE for students and such a dream opportunity facilitated for us by Microschool Solutions. It's a really cool time to be involved in education- there are amazing resources out there and I am so grateful people like WonderEd are including our students in their opportunities. Do you know any students who need a different type of learning model that might benefit from our program? We would love to chat!!
Workinโ Hard Wednesday!!! Thanks Treasure House volunteers for helping us prepare our space for our vendor fair with this weekend!!
Did you know that as part of our vocational program we work hard to expose our students to a variety of different jobs in the community. Tuesday was a special day getting to visit Spencerโs Place for our vocational and life skills field trip! Spencerโs Place in Surprise is a coffee shop that employs individuals with disabilities! Our students not only practiced ordering and paying for their own drinks, they also got to learn about Spencerโs Place and what it means to work there. Inclusivity is important and seeing first hand, neurodiversity in the workplace was so great for our students! We learned about their internship program, accommodations, and how awesome it is to work there! Thank you Spencerโs Place!!
If you want to learn more about our vocational program, please feel free to reach out or stop by for a visit on March 2 at our resource fair!

It's Giving Tuesday! Did you know each of our horses is a retired athlete? Our senior horses go above and beyond to help serve our students- and many of them need our support to help with age and sports related injuries.
We have a goal of raising one month of horse care to support our herd! You can learn more about how we care for our herd and provide support at:

Sending a heartfelt embrace and immense gratitude to our wonderful veterans this Veterans Day!
Amanda Tallman leads First Page AZ, and while many of you witness her dedicated work with our students, her unwavering commitment to establishing a secure haven for veterans to contribute to their community is truly remarkable. She has a heart of gold and we are so grateful she has chosen to partner with us to bring her First Page Volunteer matching initiatives to The HEART Center ๐ค
Building a life and legacy after returning to civilian life After finding her purpose in the U.S. Army, Amanda Tallman will serve as one of eight Grand Marshals at the Phoenix Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, November 11, 2023.

Taking care of horses is a 7 day a week job and we truly couldn't do it with out the help of our volunteers. Chris and Christina have selflessly been coming out almost every Sunday night to take care of our herd and we can't thank them enough.
They say "We were drawn to The HEART Center be use we love what they stand for and enjoy giving back to the community. Being out in the stables is very intentional for us and we enjoy connecting with the horses. We are incredibly grateful to be able to help out, even if it's in a small way."
We love you Chris and Christina, your "small way" is a huge way for us. Thank you for helping to give Matt and Carrie the peace of mind of not having to worry about the well-being of the herd on Sunday nights!
The HEART Center is always in need of horse care volunteers *especially on the weekends* to help with things like stall cleaning, feeding and dragging arenas. If you want to get involved or know someone who would, send us a message or email us at [email protected]!
Have you met our equine partner Petey? He's our 17 year old paint pony donated to us by the amazing Bennett. He is the sweetest, most intuitive and incredibly sensitive guy. He is an impeccable judge of character and is always down to play. Petey was retired into a career as a therapy horse because a strained suspensory pushed him out of the jumper ring- and selfishly we think he is right where he was always meant to be.
Fun fact about Petey: His play is larger than life and when he really gets going he hops around like a deer, which is why his old barn family used to call him Pogo =) You can often find him out playing with his bestie, Denver.
Thereโs been some speculation lately about why therapeutic riding is an approved service for students with special needs and we could list a million reasons why WE love to put kids on horses but really our top 3 are:
- Improved Motor Skills: The act of learning to ride a horse not only mimics the human walking motion increasing physical development but it also gives a very enriching opportunity for instructors to help coach direct motor skills. The simple act of learning to purposefully turn your head, engage a rein, push with a leg are all motor skills that involve planning and clear ex*****on- therefore building neural pathways for functional motor (and executive functioning ๐)
- Increased Emotional Well Being: The bond between the rider and the horse is incredibly therapeutic. Spending time with a horse can help regulate your nervous system, improve your mood and boost self esteem. The sense of accomplishment from learning to ride is especially empowering for our students!
- Enhanced Social Skills: Students learn to communicate with their horse, with each other anddd with themselves. Our favorite- incorporating The Social Thinking Methodology into all of our lessons. This gives our students a very tangible and preferred environment to practice these abstract and complex concepts.

Mojo needs our help ๐ He started colicking this morning and even though we caught it early, heโs found himself spending the night at Chaparral Veterinary for extra support and care. We have had a lot of emergency bills that we are still trying to get through from this spring and we really need your help to send him love, prayers and any financial support available to cover his medical fees.
Mojo is our rock and he does so much for us, the least we can do is make sure he has the best care possible when heโs not feeling well. At this time we have an estimate of $2500 for the hospital stay and thatโs not including this mornings emergency vet visit. If you can share this post with a little love about what Mojo has meant to you, every dollar truly helps.
Iโll keep you updated on how heโs doing but heโs in good hands and we are praying heโll be able to come home sometime tomorrow ๐ค
