🎉 Happy 10th Birthday to KML Counseling! 🎉

Hard to believe I’m old enough to have a business that’s been around for 10 years, but here we are! Forever thankful for incredible clients who have allowed me the true joy of journeying alongside them as they find growth and healing over the last 10 years. It’s such a privilege to witness humans doing the hard work of creating new connections, letting go of narratives that no longer serve them, and cultivating greater trust, knowledge, and reliance on themselves. As someone who has sat on both sides of the therapy room, it’s not lost on me how challenging it is to continue to show up to a space that requires intense vulnerability and a willingness to work through your stuff (do you know how many days I don’t want to go to my own therapist? 😬😆). I know every therapist thinks they have the best clients, but I *know* I do. I’m so thankful for the honor of being trusted to do this work. 🤍

To the next 10 years! 🥳

A gentle reminder that the turn of the new year does not need to coincide with a complete overhaul of your personhood. New year, same you and thank god for that. The You that has graciously, bravely trudged through nearly two years of a global pandemic, the You that has persevered and got up each day despite every reason to quit, the You that has still found room for hope and joy and love is the You that will bring you into 2022. I like current you. And sure, maybe this is a fine time to determine if your habits and practices are serving you well, but please don’t disparage the person you are today or have been in 2021 in an effort to motivate yourself to change. We are all coping with immeasurable loss- loss of normalcy, safety, and consistency right alongside the everyday challenges and tragedies of being a human person, and there’s something really dismissive and insensitive about telling ourselves we need to do better.

This new year, instead of a harsh evaluation and difficult to keep promises, what if we extended grace and kindness to ourselves and celebrated our tenacity? What if we divested from the culture of hustle and self-improvement and embraced contentment and satiety? What if we gave our weary bones rest and promised ourselves we’d go easy? I don’t know about you, but I’m walking out of 2021 exhausted and from what I can tell exhausted people need naps and reassurance that their work was worthwhile and not demands for more activity.

This time of year messaging about improving yourself and changing your life are everywhere. Be mindful of what media you’re consuming and what language you use with yourself when thinking back on the year and planning for the next. I for one, really like current you, think they are doing an amazing job, and I’m so thankful they are carrying you into 2022. ♥️
