Here at Santa Barbara Eyecare, in both locations, we pride ourselves on having the most advanced technology in Ophthalmology and Optometry. With these instruments, we can detect even the earliest signs of eye diseases and provide the best treatments.

The instrument pictured is called an Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) we use this non-invasive imaging test to detect macular degeneration, glaucoma, and other corneal diseases. This is one of our more common tests- you have probably seen it in the office!

Dr. Carter Andersen is a graduate of Southern California College of Optometry and has been practicing primary care optometry in Santa Barbara and Goleta since 2011. A native of Santa Barbara, Dr. Andersen is an alumni of both UC Santa Barbara and San Marcos High School. He was first introduced to optometry while spending 3 months doing volunteer work in Indonesia.

We are very excited to bring Ophthalmology to our practice as we transition to Santa Barbara Eyecare! Meet Dr. Douglas Katsev- our surgical director and founder.

Douglas Katsev, MD, received his chemistry degree from St Louis University. He attended Emory Medical School before returning to his hometown of St Louis for his ophthalmology residency. He did a corneal/refractive fellowship at UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute. He has been practicing in Santa Barbara since 1990 and pursued his dream of opening up his own practice in 2020.

Dr. Katsev performs more than 2500 cataract/refractive cases a year. He is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. He has been on the editorial board of Cataract & Refractive Surgery Today as well has been a board member of the American College of Eye Surgeons and the Santa Barbara Surgery Center. During private practice he has been active in clinical research with various intraocular lenses and refractive products. He continues to lecture on cataract and refractive surgery at most major meetings and is a consultant for Omeras, Shire, AMO and Bausch + Lomb, and has been a speaker for Alcon Sun and Allergan.
