Now added to the live rig. When I getto set up mix in front, now there is no potential trip hazard or cable disasters.
Now in the arsenal, stored at Willis Sound with their gracious blessing. Sessions available in the fall at both Willis and Rooftop. Contact me for details, and Boom Boom!
Due to a cancellation, I have the 19th and 20th of August free in the studio, with a freshly tuned piano. If you have interest in these days, please send me a message for booking.
New out from the immensely talented Mike Vial with Sara Gibson, Ozzie Andrews and Stu Tucker on drums.
I’ve been so focused on writing new songs, I forgot “Free to Dream” released today. Big thanks to Rooftop Recording for producing and Sara Gibson for playing cello. Yep, Stu & Ozzie are on this track too. Artwork: Ginny Vial!
Lots of mixing has been happening in recent weeks. I try and try to work in the box, because it's faster for recalls and revisions. However running to outboard analog hardware always sounds more clear, detailed and the space between instruments and other sonic elements is better while still blending beautifully.
Rooftop's commitment to great outboard, from Neve summing, to Manley, Chandler and the rest of our outboard selection is selected for fidelity and tonal options. Try, try as one may, a hybrid analog mix still sounds best to me.
Thanks Detroit Blues Society for the kind words on the recording, and the review. Thanks to Dirk for continued patronage of the studio!
Well, audio folks, for the first time since getting it, I found a mastering project that didn't sound right through my Manley Vari-Mu. This one prefers the API 2500 and Heritage Successor.
Thanks Pulp A2 for the review of the new Head Full of Ghosts album!
Pulp | Arts Around Ann Arbor This edition features spacey grooves by Bunkerman, alt-rock grunge by Head Full of Ghosts, improvisations by Molly Jones/Hunter Brown/Ishmael Ali, drum 'n' bass by Acid Lab, and black metal by Anteomedroma and Gnosis.
I was recently involved with judging a songwriting contest started by Diane Zahn. It was a task to find songs against Fascism and in support of community. This song was the #2 placed song and it is SO good. It moves me to tears. Brooke is a relative newcomer, and as best I know, the only winning song written specifically for the contest.
We recorded a version as part of her prize. Congrats on a fabulous song Brooke!

When Mike Gentry offers a guitar for sale, buy it! J45 Historic Series.
Just out on Bandcamp, recorded here, this is a fine example of rust belt bluegrass. Keep an eye out for them on stages and festivals throughout the region.

Just back from a fresh re-ribbon at AEA, this limited edition, 25th anniversary R84, one of 125 made. These are amazing microphones! It joins my stereo, R84 and R92 in my AEA offerings. Ribbon mics are some of my favorites, and excel at giving great detail and depth, with softening anything harsh. These are great for violin, winds, mandolin, banjo, drums, guitar amps, vocals. It's really hard to find things they don't sound great on. Thanks AEA Ribbon Mics!
Who’s next to make an incredible recording? My schedule is available within weeks for weekday or evening times after a bunch of projects have wrapped all at once.
These quicker booking times are a rarity, and I’m itching for projects that want to pursue something really GREAT! PM or call/text for appointments and pre-production discussions. 2 four 8, two 17, forty-one 65.
New music just out from Tyler Rigdon & the Second Arrangement. Featuring long time, dearly departed drummer Donn Deniston. Out now on all streaming platforms.
First live sound gig where I had no worry about being too loud.
Cadillac Demolition Derby.
The reverb for the special project I'm working on right now. .
Who needs a session at Willis Sound Monday afternoon? I’ll be there for a short session available from 2:30 on. I’d love to fill the afternoon and evening.
Anyone need a recording day tomorrow? I have a now free day, and I know a few people were looking for times.
New Album!
Scott Fishkind spent a good part of his life as a professional piano / keyboardist and teacher in Nashville. He graduated from the Berklee College of Music in the 1980s, and relocated to Michigan and stayed around for the great singer-songwriter community we have. This album was produced here relatively quickly, in only a few months. We worked hard to incorporated the Laurel Canyon sounds many of these songs were inspired by, on the later more fusion flavors. I'm thrilled with the final result, and I know Scott and co-producer, Bobby Pennock are as well. It is out on Apple Music this morning, which means it is out everywhere. Give a listen and share with a friend!

Kat Steih brought an amazingly creative, ambitious project to me last year, and it's now being released. Here is a great article about the album. Enjoy, and watch for that album drop. A few singles are out now from this project. As always, amazing writing from Lori Stratton.
