We shared last week that Dr.Geneva was honored by the Michigan Optometric Association with the Young Optometrist of the Year award for 2024. 🏆
Did you know Dr. Ford was given this same award in 1995, AND Dr. Kenyon had the honor in 2011! While the plaques have changed over the years, the outstanding caliber of work the plaques represent remains the same! All three of these doctors show significant dedication to the profession of Optometry and the visual welfare of the public and their patients.
3 Young Optometrists of the Year in the same practice is a pretty special thing.

This week is Elizabeth's 9th anniversary with West Michigan Eyecare. She's an excellent optician and we love having her on our team! She especially enjoys working with our youngest patients, and is really good at helping kids find eyewear they love and can be comfortable in.

Angie (on the left) has an anniversary this week! She's started with WMEA on May 27, 2008. For the past 16 years she has been integral to our team and developed incredible skill and expertise in her field. She provides outstanding care as a technician and is a great support to her team and doctors.

Dr. Cynthia Geneva was awarded Young Optometrist of the Year by the Michigan Optometric Association this week! This award recognizes a member of the MOA who has been in practice for less than 10 years (regardless of age), who demonstrates outstanding leadership skills when serving their profession, patients and community. 🥳
Well deserved! When she isn't providing excellent care in the office, she's a leader in the profession. As President of the Michigan Foundation for Vision Awareness, Dr. Geneva is passionate about providing eyecare to underprivileged communities both local and international. She works with students interested in pursuing an optometric education, and educates the public on the importance of regular eyecare.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Geneva for this amazing recognition. We are lucky to have her at West Michigan Eyecare!

Chris is our occupational therapist and she specializes in low vision rehabilitation. She works alongside our doctors in the Low Vision clinic. She joined our team 2 year ago today 🥳, and we are so thankful for all she does around here! She always provides expert care to our patients and has been a great asset to our practice.

On Monday, Dr. Cynthia Geneva (Low Vision provider), Chris Hedlich (our low vision occupational therapist) and Jess Otto (current MCO intern at WMEA) spent the day at the Michigan College of Optometry for their Low Vision Workshop. They had a great time teaching third year optometry students about low vision eye exams.
