FIELD TRIP DAY!
This week, our team toured a handful of our completed projects.
We spend a lot of time using our creativity and intellect to generate drawings, finishes, lighting, and more, we rarely get to see our projects at completion. As a team, we enjoyed re-engaging with clients and seeing all the components of a project in the space. It gives us a sense of achievement to see how pleased our clients are with their spaces.

There has been a change in how we think about senior living over the past 10 years. The aging baby boomer generation is influencing this change. It’s predicted that in the next several years there will be more people over 65 than children. As the baby boomers age, more and more are looking to make the move to a senior living community.

At first glance, Mailloux Dentistry could be mistaken for a spa. It’s certainly a place where beauty is valued.

Dr. Brittany Mailloux and partner Dr. Caitlynn Haas are licensed general practitioners in dentistry and offer a full menu of dental services. What sets them apart is their attention to the beauty and aesthetics of the smile. They are a family dentistry where adult and child patients receive the same attention.

Working with Stellar Smiles Pediatric Dentistry has been nothing short of a Big Bang with the fun, galactic flare.

The well-named Blueprint Dentistry is a rebrand from Dr. Kevin Kross' previous Michigan Street Dentistry. Michigan Street was their old location. He wanted his new dental office to reflect his technical and sophisticated approach to complete and premier dental care. His new logo includes architectural lines and symbols that clearly state the focus on precision dentistry.

When First Companies Inc. introduced r.o.i. Design to Jeff Cousins from Kraft Business Systems, “I don’t know design, I just want ‘cool’”. Jeff was very interested in every aspect of the new office. Dixon Architecture Limited had been introduced a little earlier, and Ken Dixon had the space laid out and adjusted as needed to meet Jeff’s understanding of changing needs.

A returning customer, Third Coast Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, called us to help plan for an improved checkout experience for their patients. This meant planning and designing a small addition and reconfiguration of some rooms.

We were honored to be the interior designers for the first new Animal Emergency and Specialty Hospital of Grand Rapids in Byron Center in 2022. They had an older location on Plainfield in Grand Rapids, but the space looked tired and couldn’t compare with the new facility. The plan was to build a new hospital next door to the Plainfield location, and that dream came true when they moved into the new facility in February, 2024.

Kent County Office of the Defender (KCOD) has been working with r.o.i. Design for over five years. KCOD was funded and mandated by the State of Michigan to increase its capacity to serve more people. Initially, we were trying to squeeze more people and efficiency into their small office. But the demand for space was growing, and it was clear a new and larger office was needed.

Committed to the finest in dental care, Dr. Chris Powell married that with his passion for outer space to create a family-friendly office with surprising details. The front desk resembles a spaceship, the lobby features Saturn-inspired floating light fixtures, and the exam rooms could be space pods looking out into the galaxy with life-like murals of outer space.

Projects are significant for many reasons. For r.o.i. Design the UFCW 951 project is very important to us because it spanned more than three years in a customer relationship that persevered through COVID-19 and ended in great success because of their focus, clarity, and determination. After buying a new blue car, do you see blue cars everywhere? Working for Trailer Equipment Inc & Trailer X-Press Inc was like that. After we met them and understood that they had over 6,000 semi-trailers somewhere, we realized why we kept seeing their logo on trailers and mudflaps everywhere.

We took some time away from our desks to celebrate Halloween yesterday. The team had a spooktacular time painting pumpkins. 🎃

Last week, some of our team members volunteered with Kent County Parks Department. Their activity was to dethatch seeds of Purple Cone Flowers (native to Michigan) and plant them within the landscaped spaces at Millennium Park. It was a fun way to get off our computers and into nature.

It is of the highest compliment to be asked by a construction firm to provide interior design for their own office. Dykhouse Construction, Inc. asked r.o.i. Design to work with them on the design for their new office in Wayland, MI. Their building houses their offices and their tenant, Kent Home Services, a specialty residential concrete flooring supplier. We followed the terrific architectural planning of Dixon Architecture and provided interior design oversite for both spaces.
