Yesterday we teamed up with Holland Hospital to “Stuff the Ambulance”! The ambulance was STUFFED with donations of school and medical supplies from the community along with over $700 in cash donations. These donations will go to help the areas School Nurse Program. Thank you to everyone who contributed and helped with this great event!

Life EMS Innovation and Education Centre held its annual Emergency Preparedness and Sports event yesterday! This event brings together emergency personnel and athletic trainers to collaborate and get an idea of what expect from each other in order to give students the best possible care in the event that they may need medical attention during any sports event. Thank you to University of Michigan Health-West and Corewell Health for being part of this event! Also, thank you to all of the Life EMS associates that helped make another successful training!

This week we wrapped up our Length of Service luncheons with our North Operations. Congratulations to all of our North Operations associates that were recognized for their Length of Service milestone at the Blu Moon in Ludington! Associates celebrated together with leadership, coworkers, and significant others and were presented with a Life ambulance pin starting with the five-year (Ruby) pin and changing stone colors in five-year intervals. Associates in the North Operations were recognized for five through thirty years Length of Service. Thank you for your continued dedication in serving with Skill and Compassion to the communities we serve! We look forward to celebrating length of service milestones during Life EMS’ 45th year of operation next year!

The Life EMS Education Program would like to welcome 27 new students to the paramedic program! Expected graduation is January 2026. Good luck to these talented students and we look forward to your contributions to the communities served.

Associates celebrated together with leadership, coworkers, and significant others and were presented with a Life ambulance pin starting with the five year (Ruby) pin and changing stone colors in five year intervals. In attendance were associates that were recognized for five through 25 years of Length of Service. Thank you for your continued dedication in serving with Skill and Compassion to the communities we serve! Next up is North Operations at Blu Moon in Ludington on August 5th.

Life EMS Ambulance and Stryker Emergency Care have teamed up for the U.S. launch of this life-saving “Next Gen” pre-hospital monitor/defibrillator/pacer, the LIFEPAK 35. Life EMS has for many years maintained a strong relationship with Kalamazoo-based Stryker, which has allowed us to be the country’s first emergency service organization to equip their ambulances with Stryker’s LIFEPAK 35.

Life EMS will initially deploy the new LIFEPAK units in its Kalamazoo, Allegan, Van Buren and Fennville operations, following an extensive training and onboarding period, with additional units arriving in October and earmarked for Life EMS Ambulance’s northern rural operations. The balance of Life EMS operations will receive new LIFEPAK 35s in 2025, for a total of 90 new LIFEPAK units throughout West Michigan.

This past Tuesday, Life EMS of Grand Rapids was happy to host the first Camp 911 event since the pandemic. The camp was for kids ages 9 - 11 and was held at the Caledonia Fire Department. The campers learned about, First Aid, CPR, water safety and fire safety ranging from tips to skills from Life EMS, Kent County Sheriff Marine Division and the Caledonia Fire Department. Everyone had a great time! Thank you to everyone that helped bring this event together and give these kids knowledge and memories that will last a lifetime!

Life EMS North Operations recognized Chuck Smalley for his 41 years in EMS and his last fulltime shift on June 28th. Congratulations and thank you for always delivering Skill and Compassion in the communities served. We look forward to seeing Chuck on a part time basis when his schedule allows. Life EMS provided these shirts for all associates, so they have a cooler uniform option to wear during this extreme heat. Thank you to all Life EMS associates for always having a great attitude and continuing to provide skill and compassion even with the high temperatures!

Today we celebrate Juneteenth, a day that recognizes and honors the resilience and perseverance of African Americans. On this day in 1865 Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas with the news that the more than 250,000 enslaved Black people in the state were free. This day has become a federal holiday thanks to people like Opal Lee, the “grandmother of Juneteenth”, by advocating for a law to make today a federal holiday.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Zuschlag family along with his extended family at Acadian Ambulance.

Richard was a consummate professional and groundbreaking entrepreneur. He seeded countless innovations in the delivery of prehospital care. These innovations not only benefitted patients throughout Louisiana and areas beyond served by Acadian but also served patients around the country via services implementing these innovations.

Richard was a true pioneer and his legacy of caring for others will live on.
