Over the winter interim, Bennett Schmitz, 3rd year undergrad student with a senior standing majoring in Environmental Science, participated in "Introduction to Tropical Biology" trip to Panama led by Prof. Draney.
Students visited two locations in Panama, Bocas del Toro and Gamboa, and learned about the biodiversity, migration of species and the impact of the Panama Canal between two of the world's largest oceans!
"Some advice I would give to people wanting to go on this trip is to embrace the experience. Being in a different country and a completely different environment can be uncomfortable. Learning to be comfortable with being uncomfortable can help you enjoy experiences to the fullest." - Bennett

Merry Christmas to those who celebrate!
In some countries Christmas is celebrated on Christmas Eve rather than Christmas Day. In Finland, for example, people often enjoy a hot cup of "glögi" (similar to the German "Glühwein") with almond shavings and raisings and "joulutorttu", a puff pastry filled with plum jam after a traditional Christmas Eve meal consisting of ham, fish and casseroles.
Kendra Lepper '22 (Communication) fulfilled her last humanities general education requirement by studying abroad in Ecuador, the land of contrasts! See the portfolio she compiled and read about her experience on our blog!
