The week wrapped up at bootcamp with a visit to dispatch, marching and drills and graduation !! We are proud of each and every one of the kiddos for a great week!
Day 3 of boot camp was fi****ms and hand to hand combat. Kiddos were trained in firearm safety, had some cool demonstrations by instructors and were allowed to fire different types of weapons.
‼️Street Closures for 4H Fair Parade Today‼️
Wood Street, Seminary Street, Washington Street, Bloomington Street and Locust Street will be closed fully or partially starting at 1:00 PM today for the 2024 Putnam County 4H Parade. Partial closures on these streets will start around noon for staging. Secondary streets in the area will be limited travel as well during this time period. Please expect some travel delays. The parade will start at 2:00 PM. See map below for parade route.
GPD Officers and our law enforcement partners will be out along the route and other designated areas, please observe any street barricades and follow Officers instructions if in the area. Let’s have a fun and safe parade today!
The phone lines are back up and working properly.
Day 2 of GPD bootcamp in the books! Today the kiddos learned about water safety and had a diver demonstration by the Indiana State Police dive team. Special thanks to Trooper David Cox jr, Sgt Kris Fitzgerald, and Trooper Spencer Brooks. Also special thanks to Greencastle High School for the use of the pool due to the inclimate weather and Lifeguard Riley Wilson for keeping everyone safe!
The phone lines to the PD are currently not working. If you need an officer, please call dispatch at 653-5115. For other needs, the front office is open for walk-ins. We are working to fix the issue and apologize for the inconvenience.
Day one of Police Bootcamp is in the books. Kiddos were lead in PT, had a talk from former GPD Asst Chief Paul Wilson on the history of policing, and a K-9 demonstration by GPD and Putnam Couny Sheriff Dept.
Please be safe and responsible with your fireworks this year! Please remember that quiet time is 10PM for normal days, and fireworks may be used until midnight on the 4th. Please be respectful to your neighbors!
As the celebrate 4 festivities near, we want to provide some public information in regard to the days activities.
Reminder that the events will all be held at Big Walnut Sportspark this year, NOT Robe-Ann.
The fireworks will be launched from the south-west softball field. Per the fireworks professionals, Capital Drive will be closed from the west entrance of the Sportspark to CR 250 E until 2 hours after the fireworks have completed. Both entrances to the Sportspark will remain open and CR 250 E can still be accessed via CR 275 E.
AFTER the fireworks have been concluded, traffic exiting via Capitol Drive must turn West toward Greencastle, and traffic exiting via CR 275 E must turn East. Traffic on 275 E. may turn South and travel CR 250 E. Officers will be in place directing traffic to ensure that the bulk of vehicles exiting the Sportspark can do so in a quick, safe manner.
Please have a safe and wonderful 4th of July!
There appears to be someone calling folks and identifying themselves as Greencastle Police Officers. They have even cloned the departments telephone number for caller ID purposes. They are requesting donations. GPD is NOT soliciting donations via telephone. Please don’t give anyone identifying themselves as Greencastle Police any banking info over the phone.

We are happy to announce Officer Jensen Clement was sworn in today at City Hall. If Officer Clement looks familiar it’s because she has been a Reserve Officer with GPD for over a year now and has now made the jump to full time. Officer Clement fills a vacancy we have had since September of last year. She is beginning her training immediately and will be attending the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in the near future. Please say hello if you see Officer Clement out and about in the community. We are proud of her accomplishments so far and look forward to what she will do in the future here at GPD.
Thank you to the Greencastle Schools Transportation for the yummy treats!
PLEASE TAKE NOTE:
CenterPoint Energy will be doing a road closure on Monday 5/20 and Tuesday 5/21 night, starting at 9 pm.
The Washington St. closure will be west of Indiana Street, between Indiana St. and Jackson St. The area for the closure is in red on the attached map. The work will be done during the late night hours, with the hopes to cause the least amount of inconvenience to citizens. The road will open back up during the daytime hours. This is hopefully only going to be a 2-day project.
With National Police Week winding down, we wanted to recognize a long time GPD Reserve who recently retired from service. Reserve Sergeant Clyde Siddons served the citizens of Greencastle from 1997-2024 as a volunteer Officer. We were able to meet up recently and talk about all the Officers and Chiefs that Sgt Siddons worked with over those years. It was great catching up and hearing some interesting stories. Sgt. Siddons was presented with his retirement plaque for his years of dedicated service to the Department. We wish him the best in retirement as he now spends more time with family and friends.
Thank you to Jamie and Colton Bunten for the gift baskets today!

Officers are directing traffic at SR 240/Warren Drive for a traffic accident. Traffic will be slowed for some time while a semi is removed from the ditch. Please beware and allow some extra time for travel.
With colder weather forecast soon we want to provide some tips for protecting yourself:
- Be sure to have an alternate location or heat source in case of power outages- Be sure to follow all safety considerations when using an alternative heat source to avoid fire. If you have a question in regard to alternate heating safety, contact your local fire department for advice!
-Have extra blankets, hand/body warmers in your vehicle in case of a breakdown.
-Subzero temps/windchills can cause damage to exposed skin very quickly. Be sure to cover up face and hands if outside for extended periods.
-Open kitchen and bathroom cabinets to allow airflow and leave sinks dripping to avoid frozen pipes. Also store some extra water in sealed containers in case of frozen pipes.
-Make sure that all outside animals have adequate shelter and insulation in these shelters. Also periodically check water sources as these will freeze over quickly.
-Check on your elderly neighbors and make sure that they have what they need to be safe.
-Prepare in advance by getting supplies early. Don't wait until the last minute and cause a run on supplies at the store/gas station.
-There are several blessing boxes throughout town. Feel free to leave food/hygiene/blankets in these boxes for those that are in need.
-Make sure to lock your vehicles if you are allowing them to warm up unattended. An unlocked/running vehicle is an easy target for vehicle thieves.
