Find Your Voice ECU
Find Your Voice is a movement aimed at educating, advocating, and empowering the East Carolina Unive
In light of recent events with Theta Chi here at ECU (and with Halloweekend quickly approaching), here’s a guide to drink tampering/spiking. It’s vital that we watch our drinks because spiking is prevalent and can lead to uncomfortable or horrible situations. Please be safe and watch out for your friends
We all need affirmation sometimes, and survivors of s*xual abuse & trauma can use these specific mantras to help when life gets tough. We hope these lift you up and give you comfort, hope, and a sense of peace. Recovery and healing is difficult, but you are so strong and you can do it. Keep going!!! We’re rooting for you! We send you SO much love and let us know if you have any requests of topics or posts you’d like to see!
With the amount of news coverage surrounding the Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision, we wanted to cover an essential part of the conversation: what happens in cases of r*pe and in**st. The sad truth is that many of these proposed exceptions in abortion bans aren’t actually going to help the people they’re for, so it’s important that we educate ourselves and advocate for survivors of s*xual abuse! We hope you learn something from this post, but still take care of yourself when the news gets overwhelming. We’re sending you lots of love during this time and we encourage you to practice some self-care!
Hi everyone! We hope that you’re all having a wonderful start to your summer and enjoying the warmer weather :) We wanted to talk about a term used a lot: s*xual violence. It’s important to know the exact definitions of terms commonly used in court cases, news stories, etc. If we all understand the terms being used, then we can keep each other safe more effectively! We truly believe education can be the key to safety :) Sending you love
We hope everyone is having a wonderful semester so far! It’s been a very busy start to 2022, but we can’t wait to get more posts & content out to you all again :) Talking about allyship is one of the big pillars in our mission and being a great ally is easier than you’d think! Educating yourself, speaking up for others, and listening to your friends & family are all wonderful ways of supporting survivors. Please let us know if you have any questions about allyship or suggestions for upcoming topics!
There are definitely some 2021 wins for the s*xual assault survivor & ally community to celebrate and to be inspired by! We wanted to share these to make you hopeful and empowered for 2022. Thank you so much for your support this year and we’re so excited for what we’ll be able to achieve next year. We’re sending lots of love your way :) Have a wonderful new year and continue to fight for advocacy, education, and accountability!

Enough is enough. Theta Chi has a history of drink tampering & s*xual assault at ECU and at many other universities. With the help of , our SGA passed a bill urging ECU to ban Theta Chi Fraternity off of campus for 100 years! This is the first step towards holding perpetrators accountable and showing support for survivors at ECU. Please keep raising your voices and signing the petition in our bio so that the ECU board also signs off on the Theta Chi ban! To the survivors—we see you, we believe you, and we love you! Thank you for your bravery
BIG reminder for this weekend!! The clothing people are wearing have nothing to do with consent—and that means consent pertaining drinking, going to certain parties/places, AND s*xual acts (this is also a good thing to note all the time, not just on Halloween)! Take care of your friends this weekend & stick to your boundaries. Stay safe & have fun slaying in your costume ;)

Coming to you live from the NCHC Conference in Orlando, FL! We walked through this post in our presentation session at 1:00, and now here it is, ready to grow & help others. Reporting s*xual assault is such a difficult & personal decision, so we want to make sure you know all the information in order to make the right decision for you. College campuses have resources & systems in place for s*xual assault reporting & support, so it’s just the matter of finding the ones that will help you or your friend. Let us know if you have any questions about reporting a s*xual assault in college and thank you to the NCHC people who came to our presentation today!! We were so honored to be able to present about our passion project & show you why social media is such an important tool in social justice.

By the way—our current meeting schedule is the last Monday of each month…with a couple exceptions but stay tuned ;)

For this post, we wanted to shed light on the rampant child abuse in USA Gymnastics, being brought to attention by the survivors of Larry Nassar. The USAG & Larry Nassar s*xual abuse scandal is the most highly publicized s*x abuse scandal in sports history, so it has many layers & is difficult to read about. However, it’s so important to learn about what happened (and what’s continuing to happen). The brave women who have shared their stories, including elite gymnasts, college athletes, and Olympians, are such an inspiration. Unfortunately, this situation is ongoing—the FBI mishandling and the USGA case are still being investigated currently. The fight against s*xual abuse & its enablers in the USA Gymnastics and Olympic Committee is very much alive, so continue to support survivors & follow along as information continues to come out. 🤍

FYV is back!! We hope that all the students out there have had a wonderful start to the school year! Today we want to talk about the red zone, the period of time between the start of the school year & fall break where s*xual assaults spike on college campuses. This is a scary time, especially for freshman women. If you experience assault or see any suspicious activity, please report it, look out for your friends, and take care of yourself. And remember the most important thing: it is NEVER the survivor’s fault. The FYV team sends you so much love & good vibes for this fall semester :) Let us know if there’s anything we can do for you (and stay tuned for our first meeting announcement coming very soon!!).

Happy Wednesday! We hope that you’ve had a joyful & fulfilling Pride Month! Even though it’s the last day of June, we want to make sure that we’re supporting LGBTQ+ survivors all year long. It’s so important that we understand that the LGBTQ+ community has higher risks of s*xual assault & s*xual violence so that we can find the root of this issue, as well as support & fund groups that specifically help LGBTQ+ survivors. Your stories are valid & important in s*xual assault conversations and we hope that groups like ours can help you feel heard! We believe you & we love you all year long. 💜

Happy Sunday! This post is the start of a new series called “In the Know” where we dive into some terms & concepts that you’ve most likely heard about but might not know what they mean. Victim blaming is so common when people talk about s*xual assault cases, no matter if they’re personal or high-profile. We wanted to talk about this phenomenon, why it’s so dangerous, and what we can do to change this culture. The most important thing to remember is to believe survivors!! We believe you & we support you.

Hi, everyone! After a little bit of a break, we are back & so excited to share these resources with you! Diversifying the accounts you follow, the books you read, and the people you are learning from is so important, especially in the social justice realm. Sexual assault does not discriminate—it affects all genders, races, ethnicities, & religions and is present in every culture. Since there is such a broad range of experiences, it’s imperative to listen to all stories. We hope you enjoy these recommendations and let us know if you have any other ones in the comments!

Happy Thursday! Today we want to talk about healing from abusive & toxic relationships. It can be difficult to even know where to start after getting out of a relationship, whether it be romantic, familial, or a friendship. These are some steps you can take to heal, but remember—healing is so individual! Have patience with yourself & allow your emotions the space to sort themselves out. We believe in you!
