A journey through the dark side of the American dream, Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman’s Tony-winning musical Assassins explores the lives of nine men and women who either killed (or tried to kill) one of the Presidents of the United States. From John Wilkes Booth to Lee Harvey Oswald and beyond, the stories of our country’s most successful and would-be assassins intersect in unexpected ways, creating a powerful, yet unnervingly funny look at some of the most shocking moments in US history.

Very few tickets are remaining for Friday and Sunday’s performances.

Our dear John Fagan has won so many accolades lately from both state and local institutions that it is difficult to keep up! But despite his shelves collapsing due to the amount of rewards, we wanted you to know that on May 23rd of this year, John had the great surprise and pleasure of being presented a proclamation from Mayor Knox White that the 23rd would be JOHN FAGAN DAY! Honoring everything John has meant to the city through his 25 years of work with the Upstate Shakespeare Festival and his continuing to foster a community of accessibility and diversity in the Greenville theatre scene, we can think of no one more deserving of this honor. We also now expect John to win the Cy Young Award, the Heisman, and two Academy Awards in the coming months just to finish this award season out in style!

Don’t miss out on the final weekend of Love’s Labour’s Lost in Falls Park with performances Thursday-Sunday at 7:00pm (weather permitting). Final performance is June 16.

Join us for this Connections Event Forum!

One of our great American composers goes to work on one of our “great” American traditions: political violence. Join us on Sunday, June 23rd at 5 PM (immediately following the matinee performance) for a deep dive into Sondheim’s audacious musical, Assassins. Panelists Gary J. Malvern (Music & Music History, Furman University) and Dr. Stephen C. Phillips (Political Science, Clemson University) will dissect the show from a musical and historical perspective, exploring the characters, their twisted versions of the American Dream, and the conditions that fueled their actions. Through this exploration, we will probe the question, “What is it about our distinctly American mythos of ambition and entitlement that has bred a culture of violence targeting the pinnacle of the political pyramid?”

Our forum is free and open to the public! You can RSVP at the following link. https://warehousetheatre.app.neoncrm.com/np/clients/warehousetheatre/event.jsp?event=198&

Darkly humorous ‘Assassins’ concludes Warehouse Theatre’s 50th season 05/31/2024

“I hope the audience leaves thinking about democracy and the idea of the American dream. The show is a Trojan horse in a lot of ways. It lures you in with the comedy, the powerful music, and the beautifully rendered, very human characters. But beneath it all, something darker and more sinister is brewing, and I hope the audience takes times to really sit in the contradictions that the show lives between.” - Andrew Scoville, director of ASSASSINS

Thank you to Greenville Journal and Paul Hyde for the story and interview.

We open to a sold out weekend tonight. I Pay What I Can performance and Talkback with the cast are this Sunday, June 2nd.

Tinasha LaRayé returns to The Warehouse Theatre stage for ASSASSINS as part of our Ensemble. Tinasha was previously seen on our stage in TWELFTH NIGHT. Tinasha had the following to say about ASSASSINS: “My favorite thing about this show is its genius ability, through all the hilarity and horror, to ask questions that feel so timeless…questions about the culture that is curating the society we live in, especially the not so pretty parts. Its boldness invites us to be bold. Its honesty invites us to be honest. I’m hoping everyone who sees the show says yes to that invitation.”

We hope that you do accept our invitation and join us for performances May 31-June 23. Tickets are going FAST! Tickets available at warehousetheatre.com

When asked what excites him about this show, Austin told us, “My favorite thing about this show is that it’s deeply human. These folks are any and all of us. In pursuit of happiness. You haven’t bought your tickets for Assassins yet? What are you doing?!? You don’t want to miss Jason D. Johnson’s return to The Warehouse Theatre stage as Samuel Byck in ASSASSINS. You might’ve seen Jason in memorable performances of THE CRUCIBLE and RICHARD III. Jason has a history of playing characters that make some questionable decisions at the Warehouse. Mr. Byck is no exception.

When asked what excites him about ASSASSINS, Jason told us, “I never thought I’d be a producer on this show, let alone act in it. But when my high school theatre teacher, Robby Davis, played a portion of this musical my senior year, it set the final hook for my love of theatre. Thrilling to get to visit it all these years later. I’ve always loved art that explores the dark, as I think you learn so much more about yourself and the world that surrounds you, instead of just staring at the light.”
