Local artist, Robert Sparan, recently led a "Painting in the Stacks" class at Cos Cob Library. With Robert's guidance, participants created floral masterpieces using acrylic paint. The program was for beginner painters and included an intro color paint mixing, basic brush strokes and artistic composition.
Congrats to Ella Dawson, a Greenwich Library patron since youth, on her novel “But How Are You, Really”!
Big feelings! My first book is officially at my hometown local public library, Greenwich Library. When I was 12, I ran away from home for a day and hid on the children’s floor. When I was a teenager, I read every new YA novel they stocked. When I moved back in with family after leaving my ex, I checked out the whole shelf on domestic violence. And when the time came to finish my novel, I did the whole last year of revisions tucked away at a desk on the second floor.
Growing up, it was always my dream to see a book I’d written on these shelves. I am so proud to see BUT HOW ARE YOU, REALLY in the new fiction section at the main branch of Greenwich Library. And I’m so grateful to the librarians and staff for holding space for writers, readers, and community members every single day.
The Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law on July 26, 1990, making July Disability Pride Month. To celebrate, here is a list of books each offering unique perspectives and insights into the experiences of people with disabilities. These compelling reads will inspire, educate, and deepen your understanding of disability culture and advocacy.

Thank you to The Rowan Center Student Advisory Board members Ava, Nora, and Leah who planned last week's "Learn Before You Leave College Safety Panel" for high schoolers and their parents! This important conversation was helpful in further preparing students to head off to college in the fall.

During the hour-long discussion, panelists Sarah Molhotra from The Rowan Center, Deputy Chief of Police at UCONN Magdalena Silver, Colleen Sherry from Fordham EMS, and Ellen Brezovsky from Kids In Crisis answered questions from the GHS students who organized the panel that centered around the transition from high school to college.
Panelists were asked about a variety of pressing issues for students going into college including challenges to managing time compared to high school, how poor mental health can affect already stressful situations in college and general safety rules regarding alcohol and other drugs.

We love that our annual Greenwich Reads Together program is truly a community affair—how many of these books do you remember reading and discussing with friends and neighbors? This year, we'd like to solicit your opinions for our GRT selection for 2024. Our proverbial book suggestion box is open! 📚
Head to our site (greenwichlibrary.org/forms/suggest-grt-book/) to submit ideas and recommendations for the GRT Selection Committee to consider for 2024. Deadline is Wednesday, March 20. We look forward to your input!
Guidelines: To be selected, the book must be of literary quality, reflective of universal issues and capable of generating thought-provoking discussions. It must lend itself to engaging public programs, appeal to a diverse population, and have a living author.
Thank you to the Friends of Greenwich Library for their support of GRT!

For anyone needing tax prep assistance, the AARP Foundation offers free appointments on a first-come, first-served basis every Saturday morning from 9:30am-1pm. All patrons are welcome to take advantage of this extremely helpful service, not just AARP-eligible members.
Celebrated jazz trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis and his eponymous quintet brought the sounds of the Big Easy to Greenwich last Thursday, playing a setlist of raucous Mardi Gras tunes along with standard jazz classics by George Gershwin and Johnny Mercer to a sold-out crowd in the Berkley Theater. The performance was part of the Peterson Concert Series in honor of Black History Month. Thank you to everyone who made this night a rousing success! 🎵

Meacham imparted insights from his decades of research in the presentation "The Art of Leadership: Lessons from the American Presidency." Signed copies of his latest bestseller, "And There Was Light: Abraham Lincoln and the American Struggle" were available to purchase.

The Oral History Project (OHP) is 50 and begins a year-long celebration with a proclamation by First Selectman Fred Camillo, declaring January 22, 2024, Greenwich Library Oral History Project Day in the Town of Greenwich.
Founded in 1974, when then library director Nolan Lushington gave it space at the main library and the Friends of Greenwich Library undertook its sponsorship and funding, OHP sent trained interviewers to record interviews with people who helped make, or lived through and observed, the history of Greenwich. One of its earliest interviews was with Mary Dodge Ficker, who described growing up in Old Greenwich in the 1890s.
Staffed by volunteers, the Project has recorded more than 1,250 interviews, published 142 books, monthly blogs, and pamphlets based on its collection, and trained volunteers and Town residents in the techniques of conducting and preserving oral history interviews. Co-chairs Mary Ellen LeBien and Susanna Trudeau invite you to its website, glohistory.org, and its office at Greenwich Library.
