It is with heavy hearts that the Cos Cob Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 announces the passing of our beloved president and dedicated 50-year member, Steven L. Francefort. Steve’s commitment to our fire company spanned decades, including over 40 years as our president.

Steve joined our department in October 1974 and quickly rose to leadership, being appointed vice president in August 1978. On January 3, 1980, he was sworn in as president, serving until 1983. Although health concerns briefly forced him to step down, Steve’s unwavering dedication brought him back to the role of vice president in December 1987. He was voted president again in 1988 and held that position ever since!

Steve’s dedication to the Cos Cob Volunteer Fire Company and the residents of Cos Cob was nothing short of extraordinary. His tireless advocacy for volunteer services in Greenwich made a profound impact on our community, and he will be deeply missed.
