A Brief History of Lions Clubs International
In 1917, Melvin Jones, a 38-year-old Chicago business leader, told members of his local business club
they should reach beyond business issues and address the betterment of their communities and the
world. Jones' group, the Business Circle of Chicago, agreed.
After contacting similar groups around the United States, an organizational meeting was held on June
7, 1917, in Chicago, Illinois, USA. The new group took the name of one of the invited groups, the
"Association of Lions Clubs," and a national convention was held in Dallas, Texas, USA in October of
that year. A constitution, by-laws, objectives and a code of ethics were approved. And the rest is history.
As we approach our 100th anniversary in 2017, it's moment to look back on our long and proud
tradition of service and the numerous achievements of our association and Lions around the world.

North Mianus Elementary School and Old Greenwich Elementary School have been completed eye screening for the school year as the program has started two weeks ago. Jullian Curtis Elementary school on the schedule for October 8th!
* The Greenwich Lions Club, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary in town this year, kicked off this program in 2015, but started going to each elementary school in the Greenwich school district in 2017.
While at the schools, Lions volunteers screen the eyes of students in first, second, fourth and fifth grade. Kindergartners and third graders don't have to get their eyes scanned because those students come to school already having a full medical exam done.

to our 61st Annual Pancake Breakfast this past March with over 400 attendees who enjoyed breakfast and entertainment! Plus new this year, we were thrilled to have partnering non-profits set-up tables at the event.
Attendees enjoyed pancakes, with chocolate chips as the most requested topping, as well as sausages, orange juice, coffee, tea and milk. Live music by the Long Meadow Band filled the GHS student center while kids could get their faces painted by Faces By Wells and Greenwich Lions’ members administered free eye screenings for 2 to 6 year olds.
The Lion’s Club even presented their annual donation checks to the attending non-profits. Funds raised at the Pancake Breakfast support the many service projects that the Greenwich Lion’s Club lead to help people in the town of Greenwich and surrounding communities.
