Basic benefits towards your heating bill range between $180 and $530 depending on your situation. These benefits are usually paid directly to your utility company or fuel supplier. Looking for ways to have a greener holiday season? Ditch traditional wrapping paper for an eco-friendly gift wrapping it’s an easy way to reduce your environmental impact this year.
If your wrapping paper has glitter, a metallic print, is textured or has a waxy coating, it cannot be recycled. However, plain, non-coated wrapping papers are usually recyclable.
Here are some tips for eco-friendly gift wrapping this year:
1. Reuse Cardboard Shipping Boxes - Online shopping? Save the cardboard boxes for gifts instead of store-bought gift boxes. You can recycle or compost all of that cardboard afterwards.
2. Wrap Boxes with Brown Paper Bags or Newspaper - Paper grocery bags are pretty easy to come by, save them for gift wrap. If you purchase a physical newspaper, it too can be used to wrap gifts. The comics section is good for this!
3. Use Fabric for Gift Wrap - Use fabric items as part of your present by opting for a scarf, sweater or shawl, as wrapping over traditional paper.
4. Use Biodegradable Paper Tape - For eco-friendly gift wrapping, consider using compostable washi tape. This alternative is biodegradable and made with wood fibers, pulp or bark and natural adhesives. They come in a multitude of patterns and colors.
5. Add Natural Embellishments - Rather than use a plastic bow, embellish with tree branches (clip sprigs from your Christmas tree), cinnamon sticks, pinecones, rosemary, fallen leaves or whatever else you can sustainably source in your area. Take the kids on a scavenger hunt to find these natural embellishments.

The Greenwich Parks & Recreation Department invites you to the second (and final!) public meeting on the Pomerance and Tuchman Master Plan. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, December 13 from 6pm-8pm in the Town Hall Meeting Room with a Zoom option.
The first public meeting was well attended by residents both in person and on Zoom. Parks & Recreation and their consultant, GZA, Environmental Inc. provided an in-depth presentation of the Pomerance and Tuchman properties and received valuable feedback from the attendees on what elements they would like to see incorporated and prioritized into the Master Plan. In addition to the first public meeting, a Pomerance and Tuchman Master Plan survey was available from October 13 through November 17 which allowed users of the park to provide further input on what they would like to see in the Master Plan.
The second public meeting will be centered around discussing the draft Master Plan that has been developed based on the feedback from the first public meeting and the community survey. This will give attendees a chance to review the priorities and long-term strategies of the plan and provide further input before the Master Plan is finalized.
We hope to see you all there on Wednesday, December 13!

For the freshest tree, visit a tree farm or a place that sources their trees from a local tree farm.
Measure: Don’t forget to measure your space before you head out to the farm. You want to be certain you’re not cramming too large of a tree into a small space. Avoid placing the tree near heat sources such as fireplaces, radiators, or heating vents, this will dry the tree out faster. When measuring, don’t forget to consider the height of your tree stand and your tree topper. Also, measure how big of a trunk will fit in your stand.
Freshness: Test the freshness, lightly grab the inside of a branch, and gently pull toward you, if the needles stay on the tree, it’s a contender. Crush some needles in your hand, if it is not fragrant enough, move on.
Water: The trunk should be relatively straight and slightly sticky. Cut off about a half-inch straight across the bottom of the tree's trunk. A fresh cut will absorb more water, which will help your tree hold its needles and keep its color longer. Put the tree in water as quickly as you can after it’s been cut. Fill the stand with one quart of water for every inch of the trunk's diameter. Remember to check the water level daily — it should always cover the cut end of the trunk. Refill as needed. Recycle: When the season is over, recycle your tree. The Town has a tree recycling program, more details to follow.
