Traffic cones were invented by Charles D. Scanlon, an American who, while working as a painter for the Street Painting Department of the City of Los Angeles, was unimpressed with the traditional wooden tripods and barriers used to mark roads which were damaged or undergoing repainting. Scanlon regarded these wooden structures as easily broken, hard to see, and a hazard to passing traffic. Scanlon's rubber cone was designed to return to an upright position when struck by a glancing blow. The patent for his invention was granted in 1943 - 45years after BOE was established!

Reportedly, the first use of a motorized cart on a golf course was by JK Wadley of Texarkana, who saw a three-wheeled electric cart being used in Los Angeles to transport senior citizens to a grocery store. Later, he purchased a cart and found that it worked poorly on a golf course. The first electric golf cart was custom-made in 1932, 34 years after BOE was established.

Duckpin bowling is a variation of bowling that uses balls which are significantly smaller than those used in ten-pin bowling, weighing 2.2β6.6 lb each, which are without finger holes. The pins are correspondingly shorter and lighter than their ten-pin equivalents. Hence, when the pins are knocked down, they resemble a "flock of flying ducks". During the summer of 1900, some bowlers at Diamond Alleys in Baltimore thought it might be interesting to resize the pins to match the 6-inch ball. Thus, the inventor of duckpin bowling, John Van Sant, used a wood turner to do exactly that. BOE was already 2 years old when was invented! Happy Birthday BOE.
The must have in any household... the BLENDER. In 1919, Polish-American Stephen J. Poplawski of Racine, Wisconsin, invented, designed, and manufactured beverage mixers used in preparation for malted milk served at soda fountains. It consisted of a spinning blade on a long rod extending down into a cup. Poplawski patented his invention of the blender in 1922. BOE had already been in business for 21 years when the blender came along! Happy Bday BOE!

Used globally around the world, an assembly line is a manufacturing process in which interchangeable parts are added to a product in a sequential manner in order to create a finished product more quickly than with older methods. This type of manufacturing greatly reduces the amount of time taken to assemble a product, thus reducing production, material, and labor costs so that an affordable product cost can be passed onto consumers. BOE opened its doors 3 years before the assembly line was invented.

Popularly known by the brand name Band-Aid, an adhesive bandage is a self-sticking taped and small dressing used for injuries not serious enough to require a full-size bandage. This easy-to-use dressing with adhesive tape was invented by Earle Dickson in 1921. The Band-Aid was developed in 1921 by Earle Dickson, a cotton buyer at the company Johnson & Johnson. He was inspired to create a new kind of bandage to aid his wife, who often cut and burned her fingers while cooking. She needed something that would be flexible and allow her to dress her own wounds. The Band-Aid was born 23 years after BOE opened its doors.

In 1905, Frank Mogridge created the first crude protective headgear and was granted a patent for a "head protector." This first attempt at a batting helmet was said to look like an inflatable boxing glove that wrapped around the hitters head. Bank of England was established 7 years prior to the creation of the first batting helmet! BOE!
The windshield wiper is a bladed device used to wipe rain and dirt from a windshield. In 1903, Mary Anderson is credited with inventing the first operational windshield wiper. In Anderson's patent, she called her invention a window cleaning device for electric cars and other vehicles. Operated via a lever from inside a vehicle, her version of windshield wipers closely resembles the windshield wiper found on many early car models. Anderson had a model of her design manufactured. She then filed a patent (U.S. patent number 743,801) on June 18, 1903, which was issued to her by the U.S. Patent Office on November 10, 1903.
