Jessica Wallenfels, theatre instructor and friend to MHCC Theatre, is producing this event: Check it out!
The Hatchery is a revolutionary annual new works festival supporting the creation of music and movement-centered theater. This year's festival features two new works: WHY and HOW Are Not in the Picture by Monique Holt is performed entirely in American Sign Language with multi-sensory elements for hearing and d/Deaf audiences; La Mariposa is a solo devised work performed by Sofia Marks with Isabel McTighe about a girl’s quest to remember her name and reconnect with her deities through Aztec mourning rituals. The festival also includes a catered happy hour, a moderated panel on creating d/Deaf theater, and an all-bodies-welcome dance class. All events are entirely free of charge, so reservations are encouraged. Details and reservations here:

Congratulations Matt Ludwick, 2023 Professional Theatre Technician graduate! Matt returned to MHCC for this degree after already earning an Associate of General Studies degree. Matt is working as an event setup technician at the Oregon Convention Center. Excited to see our grads employed!!
Tyler Ellis is going pro in something other than theatre, and we're so glad that he joined us in technical theatre workshop this year. Tyler helped build the scenery and worked backstage for Secret Garden and Buried Child. Tyler graduated with the Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer degree and plans to continue his studies in Environmental Science at PSU. When not working backstage, you can find Tyler outdoors hiking, rafting, snowboarding and riding his motorcycle!
Congratulations to 2023 graduate Sophia Dunbar! Sophia has earned a role in every musical theatre production since she transferred to MHCC. Audiences will remember Sophia in Heathers the Musical, Musical Theatre Cabaret, as Martha in Secret Garden and as Kate Monster in Ave Q! Sophia will continue her studies at University of Nevada, Las Vegas! We can't wait to hear about your next musical theatre role!
Congratulations 2023 Professional Theatre Technician graduate Brooklyn Williams! Brooklyn created puppets for All the Great Books, Secret Garden, and she made Oscar and moving box puppets for Ave Q. Brooklyn interned and has been working at Imago Theatre behind the scenes and even onstage in Where's Bruno?! Keep us posted on your next show, Brooklyn!
Daryl HC with Kylee Rice after MHCC'S Commencement Ceremony.
Kylee is a 2023 graduate from the Professional Theatre Technician program. Kylee has worked in almost all areas backstage, and Ky's voice acting was heard onstage in All the Great Books. Kylee interned and worked at Bag and Baggage Theatre. We will miss Kylee but can't wait to find out what's next!
Audiences may remember Kara Pierson as the popcorn girl from The Rocky Horror Show and major roles onstage including in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Kara is going pro on something other than theatre, and we're so proud! Congratulations 2023 graduate of The Mental Health, Addiction and Counseling program, Kara Pierson!
