Join us in celebrating and praying for Br. Ambrose Stewart, OSB, on his nameโs day! Today we remember St. Ambrose of Milan, bishop and doctor of the Church. Read how Br. Ambrose came to hear the voice of God calling him to monastic life through the bells of Mount Angel:
โI suppose I have the Abbey bells to thank for my monastic vocation. During my first days here as a diocesan seminarian, the bellsโaffectionately dubbed โthe voice of Godโโinexorably drew me to join the monks for prayer in the Abbey church, even at 5:20 am! I was awestruck by the beauty of the chant, the reverence of the gestures, and the freshness of the Psalms as they spoke to my heart. It took a few years, but God eventually convinced me that I couldnโt live without the Abbeyโs Divine Officeโor the bells that beckon me there five times a day.โ โBr. Ambrose, OSB

We are so blessed to have Mt. Angel only an hour away from us.
We pray that you have a very blessed and restful Thanksgiving Day with your family and friends! Let us give thanks to God with joyful hearts this day for all the good he has done for us. Above all, we give thanks to him for giving us his Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who is our thanksgiving in the Holy Eucharist.
โAnd now bless the God of all, who in every way does great things; who exalts our days from birth, and deals with us according to his mercy.โ โSirach 50:22
With thanksgiving to almighty God, we invite you to join us on Saturday, December 16, for the ordination of our brother, Anselm Flores, O.S.B., to the diaconate.

We invite you to join us in praying for our brother, Fr. Teresio Caldwell, OSB, on his nameโs day! As we begin the month of October, the Church remembers the Little Flower, St. Therese of Lisieux, the 19th century Carmelite nun known for her โlittle wayโ of love. Read how Fr. Teresio first felt called to the monastic life below:
โI first felt a call to serve Christ and his Church around the age of 13 while serving Mass at my home parish and preparing for my 8th grade Confirmation. After discerning with the Archdiocese of Portland for a few years, I visited Mount Angel Abbey. It was at my first Come and See retreat with the monks that I fell in love with the life and the place; what better way to grow in holiness?!โ โFr. Teresio, OSB

We invite you to join us in celebrating and praying for Fr. Prior Vincent Trujillo, OSB, on his nameโs day! Today the Church remembers St. Vincent de Paul, the 17th century French priest known for his care for the poor. Fr. Vincent is also celebrating his 60th jubilee of monastic profession this year, having made his first profession of vows as a monk of Mount Angel Abbey on March 25, 1963.
โIt was Fr. Bernard Sander who suggested that I look into the brotherhood. Four of my motherโs sisters were nuns, and three of them were Benedictines. I always said that it was those three Benedictines who prayed me into the monastery.โ โFr. Vincent, OSB
๐๐ฉ. ๐๐๐ฃ๐๐๐ฃ๐ฉ ๐๐ ๐๐๐ช๐ก, ๐ฅ๐ง๐๐ฎ ๐๐ค๐ง ๐ช๐จ!
Today is the feast of St. Matthew the Apostle, so we celebrate and pray for our confrere, Br. Matthew Sislow, OSB, on his nameโs day! As many of you know, Br. Matthew made his solemn profession of vows at Mount Angel Abbey on September 12 this year.
โIt was actually the witness of other Mount Angel monks making solemn profession that inspired me to consider a monastic vocation for myself five years ago. I already had a desire burning in me, but I didn't quite know what God wanted me to do with that desire until I saw the faithful witness in those monks, who I am now proud to call my brothers here. And now, having just made my own solemn profession, I've in a sense come full circle back to that moment, and the name of Matthew I've been given feels very permanent; it's ๐ฎ๐บ name, and a sign of the new life I'm committed to living out.โ โBr. Matthew, OSB

--- September 12 - The HOLY NAME OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY ---
The Name โMARY,โ being the Name of the BLESSED MOTHER OF THE WORD INCARNATE, deserves special respect and devotion, and is thereby celebrated in four ways:
FIRST --- MARY is a name of honor, since the faithful praise Mary as the Mother of our Divine Savior; She is rightfully called โMother of God,โ for Jesus is true God being The Second Person of The HOLY TRINITY, Who entered this world becoming also true Man through Mary who had conceived by the power of the HOLY SPIRIT.
SECOND --- MARY is a Holy Name, because the very mention of Her Name reminds us SHE IS FULL OF GRACE, has found favor with God, and is blessed among all women.
THIRD --- MARY is a maternal Name, because SHE IS OUR MOTHER, WHOM OUR LORD GAVE TO US AS HE WAS DYING ON THE CROSS. - John19:26-27
Finally, MARY IS A NAME OF THE MOTHER WHO RESPONDS TO ALL OUR NEEDS, if it be for the good of our souls, PROTECT US FROM EVIL AND PRAYS FOR US SINNERS NOW AND AT THE HOUR OF OUR DEATH
----โ St. Bernard of Clairvaux - The HOLY NAME OF MARY -------
If you follow Her, you will not go astray.
If you pray to Her, you will not despair.
If you think of Her, you will not be lost.
If you cling to Her, you will not fall.
If She protects you, you will not fear.
If She is your guide, you will not tire.
If She is favorable to you, you will reach your goal.
