Community Advisory Board member Marian E. Jones shares "I'd like to start an urban garden movement in Camden city. The smallest areas can be used to grow, and they can also be decorative, beautiful and, of course, healthy.
Minority businesses are growing fast, now making up over half of new U.S. business and creating 4.7 million jobs. Yet, they still face challenges. Despite minorities making up 32% of the population, they only represent 18% of business ownership. There's a big disparity in access to capital and entrepreneurial opportunities. The Camden Food Fund is dedicated to bridging this gap and supporting all of the hardworking entrepreneurs in our communities.

Our community advisory board meetings are bilingual so that English and Spanish speaking voices are equally heard in the fund design process. This week's meeting was predominantly in Spanish so the English speakers listened in through headsets.

Examples of businesses that might be eligible for CFF loans are a restaurant owner offering healthy food options; an app designer providing just-in-time dietary information/education; a community farmers’ market; a corner store expanding to provide fresh produce; and so many other's we hope to support.
Does your food business need flexible financing? The Camden Food Fund pilot loans will range from $500 to $15,000.

What’s a character based loan?
Glad you asked! It’s a new way to support people who might not always qualify for a traditional loan due to challenges with credit. Character Based Lending is a way for entrepreneurs to get the funding they need now and build the credit they need later.
