This past fall ButterBee Foundation had the privilege of accepting a grant from the generous members of the South Mountain Partnership. These funds will be used to create and install signs in various locations on the grounds of a local Girl Scouts Camp. We are buzzing with excitement for the opportunity to bring pollinator awareness to the many Girl Scouts, their families, leaders, and other community members that utilize this camp every year. Stay tuned for updates as this project metamorphosizes!
Thank you to the supportive members of The South Mountain Partnership, The Girl Scouts in the Heart of PA, and the members of our local communities!

Today is the day! Tune into Apple TV for the greatest television event of the year! My daughter, Izzy, and I had the privilege of contributing to this impactful project. We are beyond grateful for a once in a lifetime opportunity to have worked with such a talented team. Their dedication to making a positive impact, and engaging younger audiences with the vital role bees and other organisms play in balancing our ecosystems is inspiring. As a parent, I am bee-yond appreciative that Izzy got to spend time with such driven and compassionate role models. Buckle up and enjoy a series that is not only fun but good for the planet!!

Bumble Bees are the most efficient pollinators of potatoes!
Potato plants hide their pollen deep inside, making it impossible for most pollinators to access.
Bumble bees latch onto the outside of the flower, beat their mighty wings, and shake out the pollen through a process known as buzz pollination.
Think you can keep up with a hungry bumble bee? While buzz pollinating a bumble bee can flap their wings up to 500 beats per second!

400 million pounds of cranberries are consumed each year in the U.S.!
Bee pollination is crucial for the production of this much loved fruit.
As many as 23 bee species have been spotted in a bog at one time, proving that team work makes the dream work.

Each time you enjoy a tasty cranberry filled treat, "bee" sure to thank the bees!

Each year roughly 1.5 billion pounds of pumpkin are produced in the U.S.!
Fall is a great time for everything pumpkin and pumpkin spice. We can't enjoy pumpkins without being thankful for the powerful pumpkin pollinators!

Pumpkins don't make it easy for the honey bees, bumble bees, squash bees, and other solitary bees; their blooms are only open for a matter of hours! This means pollinators have to "bee" ready to dash in quickly.

Tongue Out Tuesday! Look how excited this fruit bat is for a taste of the wild banana plant!!

Honoring Nature's Nighttime Pollinators! Bats play a vital role in pollinating many of Earth's ecosystems but are often overlooked. More than 530 plant species rely on the pollination efforts of bats. Coconuts, avocados, mangoes, wild bananas, and agave are just a few of the many foods pollinated by hard working bats. Next time you are enjoying an evening outside, look up and say "Thanks" to the bats!
