Michael A. Grubb, Associate Professor of Psychology will deliver the annual Shirley G. Wassong Memorial Lecture in European and American Art, Culture, and History on Monday, April 24.

“made you L👁️👁️K: attention, perception, and your lived experience” will take place at 4:30 p.m. in the Innovation Center.

From Prof. Grubb: It’s likely that you first noticed the word look in the title and then read the rest of it, demonstrating a very simple characteristic of our visual world: salient features capture attention. Much of my research centers on questions of attentional control. How is attention guided by forces outside ourselves? How do our goals, intentions, and expectations modulate how we attend? And, most importantly, how does attention filter the world we experience, giving rise to a unique perspective that is no more real or right than someone else’s? This will be an interactive, demonstration-filled talk on attention, perception, and subjective experience.
