Our students enjoyed a very special visit from Glorify Dance Theater today. They watched the dancers perform a ballet depicting the parable of the lost sheep, learned that a story can be told without words, that they can move their bodies to express their feelings, and that Jesus is their shepherd who loves them and will always take care of them.
Registration for the 2023-2024 school year is open! If you are interested in a warm, loving environment that will nurture your child’s development, head on over to our website to register.

Crossing the midline plays a part in everything we do! Reading, writing, catching a ball, getting dressed, sitting cross-cross-applesauce, play, self-care...everything!
So, what exactly is midline? Midline of the body is an imaginary line that drops from the middle of the head, strait down over the nose, to the belly button and divides the body into left and right sides. Examples of crossing midline include:
👈Moving the left hand/arm/foot/leg across this line to the right side (and vise versa). Twisting the body in rotation around this imaginary line
👉Leaning the upper or body across the middle of the body
👈Touching the opposite side of the page when reading, writing, or cutting.
👉SO much more!
Here are fun ways to address and develop this skill:

Part of teaching scissor skills is knowing how to hold scissors.
Holding scissors correctly is a skill that some children struggle with achieving.
You can walk into any classroom and see multiple ways children grasp scissors. This impacts the way they are able to cut with good hand and finger control. If bad habits are learned early, these can be difficult to correct, but not impossible.
Check out this blog post for a more detailed development of how to hold scissors, and learning scissor skills: https://www.theottoolbox.com/how-to-hold-scissors/
Teachers are figuring out that if kids don’t come into the classroom with empathy, it’s worth taking the time to teach it to them. Not only will empathetic kids not disrupt the class for other learners, but research has also shown that empathetic individuals are actually better learners. An analysis of 213 social and emotional learning programs involving over 270,000 Kindergarten through high school students showed that interventions increased academic performance by 11%, as well as decreased aggression/emotional distress and increased helping behavior in students. Empathy training results in higher student GPAs, better reading comprehension, and more developed critical thinking skills. In the absence of one of these school programs, parents can teach kids simply by making time to do it.
