Second and final field trip for this summer’s Summer Safari - the Perot Museum! The students had lots of fun exploring! A big thanks to Perot Museum for the Title 1 School Grant that allowed us to attend at no cost to us!
Our first Summer Safari field trip was a hit! Thanks to the Caldwell Zoo for graciously hosting our group and showing our students an amazing time!
Summer Safari students in the coding club are learning to code Sphero Robots and VEX 123 robots. They are having so much fun and picking up computer skills so fast! Thanks to the Education Foundation for supplying a grant to buy the Sphero Robots and to UT Austin for the VEX 123 robots!
Summer Safari HES students are using their math skills to measure pieces of balsa wood and cut and build models of the Alamo.
HES received a grant from UT Austin to teach physical computing. Summer Safari students as young as 2nd grade programmed a microcontroller to take a light level reading. The light level would show on a scale from 0 (dark) to 255 (bright) and show a bar graph, and a number representation. We had so much fun trying out our light level machines in different places around the school!
Our 3rd Annual Summer Safari has kicked off and our students are already engaged in all the learning opportunities! Here are some pictures of our cooking club, gardening, and beginning-stage Alamo projects!
Power has been restored, Summer Safari will run as normal!
Power is out and we aren’t sure for how long. If you have a student on campus we ask that you try to pick up your kiddos. Buses will run but not until it is deemed safe - time TBD. Therefore, if you can please make arrangements to get your student. We will keep everyone posted via here and Remind as to the status of the campus and power. If you need to call please call 903-769-0520 - that is Mrs. Bell’s direct work number. You can call but sometimes the connection is rough - you can also text that number!
If any elementary student goes to the Allen Memorial Public Library and checks out a book once a week for a minimum of five weeks, student will receive two book coins for the book vending machine. There will be a sign in sheet at the library. Starting in July, if students sign up and complete the Summer Reading Program through the public library, they will also receive two coins for the book vending machine and will also be entered into a drawing for a Nintendo Switch! We will post more info on the Summer Reading Program at a later date.

Parents/Guardians, we have finished up another amazing school year. Our students have made some amazing gains, especially in their reading ability. It is important that we keep the momentum going! We will be posting information about our summer reading program with the Hawkins Public Library in the next few days.
Our End of Year Awards are complete! Thank you to all for helping us celebrate our students and their accomplishments! Enjoy the summer and see you in August!
We had one man standing - our final and ONLY perfect attendance winner for the year - Mr. Christopher Gutierrez - and this is not his first year either - he has accomplished this multiple years! He had a choice of prize and went with the Nintendo Switch! Congratulations Christopher!
