Why do we enjoy music so much?? A recent study has provided new insights into how our brains process and enjoy music by distinguishing between the sensory and cognitive elements of musical experience. 🎵

The study found that both sensory perceptions (like the actual sound of music), and cognitive factors (like our understanding and familiarity with musical styles), independently contribute to our expectations and enjoyment of music. 🧠

The findings suggest that our enjoyment and surprise from music come not just from the music itself, but also from how it interacts with our knowledge and expectations of music. 🎧

We just love that there are people out there figuring out why we love music so much! Don't you? 🎶

New psychology research sheds light on the mystery of music enjoyment A recent study published in Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B reveals that both sensory perceptions and cognitive factors independently influence our enjoyment of music.

It’s concert week for the Hershey Community Chorus! Don’t forget you have two chances to come hear us sing. 🎼

Our first concert is Friday at The Hershey Story, The Museum on Chocolate Avenue. Why not do a bit of holiday shopping at Knock Knock Boutique or Three Little Birds Boutique and grab dinner at the Fresh Market at Hershey Towne Square and then head over to the museum by 7pm? Sounds like a lovely evening to us! 🛍️🍜

If you prefer an afternoon show, our second concert is on Sunday at Hershey Free Church at 3pm. We’d love to see you at one or both concerts! 🎶

You have two opportunities to come hear us sing this holiday season! This year’s show is called: Christmas Songs from Near and Far. We will be singing a mix of songs - some you are sure to recognize and some that may be new to you. Either way, we promise you will leave our shows in the Christmas spirit! We hope to see you there! 🎄🎶

Calling all singers and listeners! Harmonica Music Association and Lebanon Valley College are hosting a Handel’s Messiah Sing In on Saturday, November 11th at 3PM. Please see the attached flyer to find out how you can register to sing. 🎵

Did you catch the segment featuring Barry Manilow on CBS Sunday Morning earlier today? He discussed his new Broadway show, “Harmony” which is opening on Broadway in two weeks. 🎭

But did you know that The Hershey Community Chorus sang with Mr. Manilow in 2017 when he performed at the Giant Center in Hershey? Yes, it’s true! Check out the attached picture!

A new study has found that audience heartbeats and breath rates synchronize during a classical concert. Synchrony is an important part of social interaction and is associated with positive social outcomes like increased rapport and cooperation. Synchronization was especially high when concertgoers felt emotionally moved by or immersed in a piece.

This study gives us a better understanding of how music can impact the physiological and behavioral responses of a classical concert audience, but the researchers noted that the same effects would most likely generalize to other types of music concerts.

Just one more reason why attending music concerts can be good for your health! 🎶

Live music synchronizes audience's heart rate, breathing: Study Scientists monitored attendees at a series of concerts using overhead cameras and wearable sensors to collect data on their physical responses to music.

In this challenge, organizations pre-registered their board members through a Google form, and each board member rallied to raise or donate $25 by September 21st. Hershey Community Chorus went above and beyond, showcasing your commitment to making a difference in our community.

🍽️ **Dinner Bell (5-6 PM):** Awarded to the organization with the most number of gifts between 5 and 6 PM.

🌟 **Match Minute (9:21 PM):** Same as the morning match minute—donations up to $100 during this minute will be matched dollar for dollar until the fund runs out.

🌙 **Night Cap (11:59:59 PM):** The final gift of the day will receive an extra $100 for your organization!

🌟 **Trendsetter (12:01 AM):** The first donation of the day on September 21st earns an extra $100.00 for your organization!

🌅 **Sunrise (12-7 AM):** Awarded to the organization with the most donors (number of people who give, not amount) from midnight to 7:00 AM on September 21st.

☀️ **Early Rise (7-8 AM):** This award goes to the organization with the most number of donors from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM.

⚖️ **Match Minute (9:21 AM):** Donations up to $100 during this minute will be matched dollar for dollar until the fund runs out.
