Our clients are #driventowork.
When Hickory Soup Kitchen guests were asked what their biggest barrier was to finding gainful employment, their answer was "transportation."
So, we set out to find a way to eliminate that barrier. It started by bringing local staffing agencies and employers to the Soup Kitchen to work directly with guests. Then, we got a van and enlisted volunteers to drive our clients to and from work each day. Now, we have a dedicated bus route that transports workers to and from multiple jobsites each day. Even better, many of our clients have purchased their own vehicles and now drive themselves.
It turns out, a ride is just the hand up many of our neighbors needed to get back to work.
