On Sept. 14, the Catawba County United Way kick's off its annual campaign with a Free night of racing and Fireworks in partnership with the Hickory Motor Speedway held during their season Championships.
The event also introduces the public to local non-profits during a Resource Fair prior to the start of racing, with prizes for visiting all the non-profit agencies. A Food Drive benefiting local pantries will be held as well. Gates open at 5 p.m. with racing starting at 7 p.m.

Last week, NC 211 received more than 50 calls for assistance in Catawba County.
The needs included:
12 calls for shelter information,
12 calls for rent assistance,
11 calls for help with a utility bill,
3 calls for help with food.
NC 211 is the United Way of North Carolina's health and human services information line. Catawba County United Way is one of several community partners who help fund this program every year.

While the Catawba County Interagency Council took July off, members of the group did have some updates and events to share. Check out the attached flyers.
Interagency will meet again on Aug. 8 at 10:30 a.m. at the Catawba County United Way office in Hickory.

Catawba County United Way Executive Director Mark Bumgarner gets ready to make the next drop off for Meals on Wheels on Tuesday. The CCUW staff started delivering meals last year, and it's a highlight for us each month.

Chris just found out he has an unexpected additional electricity bill he needs to pay in 24 hours or his lights will be shut off. He immediately called NC 211 and was able to receive contact information for 2 services in his area to see if they can grant him emergency funds to pay his bill.

Small Businesses had a Big Impact through last year's Catawba County United Way's newest grant cycle.
Ten local nonprofit agencies received funds to help impact the lives right here in our county - The Corner Table, Catawba County Council on Aging, Family Care Center, Hart Square Foundation Inc., Catawba County Juntos 4-H, Neigbors Network Inc., OUTright Youth, Rising Hope Farms Inc., Serving Our Seniors, Volunteer Outreach in Community Efforts.
The United Way will be opening this cycle again soon and there is still time for local small businesses to sign-up and support this outreach.

Youth Council votes to support five local nonprofits - From car seats to weekend feeding programs to helping students with significant disabilities, this year’s Catawba County Youth Council chose to support a wide variety of local nonprofit programs through its annual Community Grant Cycle.
This process is in partnership with the Catawba County United Way who provides a total of $10,000 to be distributed among the chosen programs based off the Youth Council’s recommendations.
