Are you the "summer is for outdoor living space" -or- "let's enjoy the air conditioning" type? Either way, the season is upon us! Make your space light and peaceful!
What's hot this summer? Linen!
Linen is a strong, lightweight fabric that wrinkles easily unless in a blend. Linen prints are popular now-especially for upholstery, bedding, and drapery. How are you using linen in your decor?
To those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, thank you.
On my latest visit to market, one thing I noticed is that some of the colors and styles that were popular in the ‘80s are coming back. Lower upholstery furniture is in, as well as slip covers. Wicker and rattan were all over High Point. Earth tone colors were everywhere - persimmon, chocolate brown, mixed with smoky blues and greens. Textures like macrame and boucle are still strong, and saddle brown leather and spotted cow looks were seen in both upholstery and accessories. I even saw some steel and metal looks making their way back.
What do you think? Are you excited to see this comeback?
We love what we do at Guest Interiors... and we love the community we do it in! Please consider us when making your nominations for the Best of Catawba Valley this month!

Showcasing another one of my favorite wallpaper brands today... Sanderson. I love that Arthur Sanderson set up his first wallpaper factory in Chiswick (London) in 1879... and now, they have continued his vision with the Chiswick Grove collection! What a beauty, right?
Curious about wallpaper? Let's chat! I carry Sanderson (and more) and would love to show you how it can work for your home!

First up, Mind the Gap. Based in Transylvania, Mind The Gap is a contemporary design company which produces a wide range of eye-catching products! Give me a call to schedule an appointment and come see it in person!
Now that the days are longer, it is a great time to walk around your home, both inside and out for an inspection. Look for peeling paint, dingy and fading colors, roof and gutter damage, dead tree limbs and other things that need to be addressed. Make a list of maintenance projects and those that will help the appearance of your property. Prioritize these by either the most crucial items or the things that you can afford sooner!
Excited about the Ollie Art Walk! It will run right across the street from Guest Interiors and will connect with the River Walk and City Walk. Lots of great things happening in Hickory!
🎉 OLLE ART WALK TO BREAK GROUND APRIL 4 🎉
The Hickory Trail continues to take shape as construction of a new segment of the multiuse path system will soon begin along Old Lenoir Road.
The City of Hickory invites the community to attend a groundbreaking ceremony for the OLLE Art Walk on Thursday, April 4, at 9 a.m. along the future trail path at 1079 3rd Ave Dr NW.
This event will mark the official start of construction for the OLLE Art Walk and will recognize project partners, supporters, and stakeholders of this important project. The ceremony will include comments from Hickory Mayor Hank Guess and Bond Commission Chair Burk Wyatt.
OLLE Art Walk (formerly referred to as Old Lenoir Walk and the Ninth Street NW Connector) will be part of the larger Hickory Trail multiuse system and bond program that seeks to increase quality of life for residents and spur economic revitalization by providing pedestrian and bicycle connectivity throughout the city.
The OLLE Art Walk trail will run approximately 2.4 miles along Ninth Street NW and Old Lenoir Road to create a critical link between the City Walk, Riverwalk, and Aviation Walk segments of the Hickory Trail.
Once a major thoroughfare into and out of the central business district of Hickory, Old Lenoir Road is now home to funky retail boutiques, a budding arts district, and a variety of businesses.
This new section of trail is named after the OLLE Arts District, which derives its name from the first two letters of "Old" and "Lenoir" from the road name, Old Lenoir Road. The OLLE Arts District is one of the City of Hickory’s recognized business associations.
This area will be revitalized with the OLLE Art Walk, which is anticipated to be a catalyst for private investment and economic development along this corridor. With the hope of continuing to cultivate the arts in this area, the OLLE Art Walk plans to incorporate historical markers, public art pieces, and colorful murals along its path.
Hickory City Council approved a $22,714,090.80 construction contract with Neill Grading and Construction Company, Inc. for the OLLE Art Walk. The project is anticipated to take approximately 24 months to complete.
For more information about the OLLE Art Walk, and to follow along with construction progress, please check www.hickorync.gov/olle-art-walk-information.

You've heard of "Chintz"? Well, it's back in style.
The dictionary defines it as: printed multicolored cotton fabric with a glazed finish, used especially for curtains and upholstery.
Helen Shaw, the director of marketing for Benjamin Moore says, "This is due to the resurgence of maximalist decor and the comfort and familiarity gained by adding retro design to contemporary schemes." But, what do YOU think? Is it 'back'? Did it ever leave? Will you hop on the trend?
We all seem to always be looking for a little relaxation in our daily lives. In design, colors like blue and green - which mimic the sea and nature - are very relaxing. Some clients like a monotone earth-toned scheme that reminds them of a sunny day in the southwest. Or... you can use your favorite wild colors as accents if they make you smile! Take a moment and enjoy your surroundings (or call me if you don't like them and let's redecorate!)
According to Architectural Digest: "It’s back to the essential elements (literally) for home decor trends in 2024: chrome, steel, and aluminum are suddenly everywhere. Pinterest Predicts 2024 includes a “Hot Metals” board with a distinctly surrealist aesthetic—gleaming surfaces that resemble the shiny sinew of liquid mercury."
Thoughts? Are you on board with showcasing metal in your home?
'Tis the Season! Here's a tip to help ease the spring sneeze!
For dust mite allergies, wrap your mattress and pillows in dust-free barriers. Since you spend a lot of time in bed, this Is the most important place to start! Do not let your pets sleep on your pillow if you have pet allergies & use bedspreads and comforters that are easy to launder.

The Blues and Greens color group is one of the most popular categories in our area. We all love to connect with nature and the ocean, and they say these tones are known to reduce stress. The Color of the Year in this category, Upward SW6239, is a “breezy blissful blue that we find when we slow down, take a breath, and allow the mind to clear”.
