Paramedic Class of 2024! Over the past 16 months these individuals have put in the hard work, blood, sweat and maybe a few tears to get to this point. Finals are done, clinical time is done, and you all have made it! Congratulations!
All pictures made possible by Mills & Co. Photography at our annual Night Simulations event. Thanks Elizabeth for some amazing pictures!
Fire Instructor dates are up! See flyer for all the details
Our second years decided to have a Hero workout this morning. The 343 was completed in a partner/team style workout. Great job today everyone! A huge thank you to for making these days possible.
Our first years, second years and EMT students celebrated Valentine’s Day a little different this year. Hands on experiences and learning anatomical structures of hearts!
Eggs, balloons and oranges also used for hands on learning for IV/IO/IM injections.
The paramedic students were also invited out to participate in an advanced tissue lab with our medical director for more hands on training. We are so lucky to have awesome instructors, medical director, and supporters for this program! Thank you Chad for hosting the advanced tissue lab!
Our “first years” students are learning psychomotor skills in Pharmacology. Today was all about drawing up meds and administering medications IM. They started their adventures in learning with oranges. The oranges were even named and bandaged up after their injections.

We always try to bring unique learning to our communities. Jessalyn Benge, EMS Clinical Coordinator, has a love for dogs and Emergency Medical Science. She paired up with Aloha Veterinary Hospital to provide a mixture of these two topics. Dr. Mori and Dr. Keck taught some of our officers and Medics how to care for their K9 partners in emergency situations. We are so thankful to both of them for taking time out of the clinic to teach. We look forward to build this class with them! Thank you Dr. Mori and Dr. Keck!
**no dogs were injured in or for this class. All of them got lots of loving and treats.
Students got an extra special treat prior Halloween. Our Medical Director, Dr. Jason Coffey stopped by to present a lecture to students and they were able to learn some self defense but our law enforcement professionals. We cannot wait to see the medics they become after graduation.
Dr. Kim Hoyle is a local Optometrist at Advanced Family Eye Care in Denver NC. Today she took time out of her day and treated our paramedic students to a lecture on ocular emergencies. We are so thankful for all the healthcare professionals who make our program special.
Thank you Dr. Hoyle for all your valuable knowledge and time today as a guest Lecturer!
Advanced Family Eye Care
A little barbell work and some cardio to end the day.
Meet Shelly. Shelly is an amazing midwife and an amazing instructor for our students. She comes in and teaches all about pregnant mommas and welcoming a baby into the world. She is so incredible that she takes our students one by one in the clinical setting so they are able to learn in the field as well. We love Shelly and all her amazing work!
Paramedic students have been learning lab values and hematological emergencies this week. Today they were able to look at different blood cells and clots.
Our Paramedic students and EMT started their fall semester today. We are so excited to have them back. Our paramedic students had an eventful summer so we know they are up for a challenge this fall as well.
Students were able to get outside of the classroom and face some fears while learning. Taking a little different approach to patient care and prioritizing treatments. Great job guys! A special thanks to Hayden Wright, Brandon Drum and Bandys Fire Department for providing such unique training.

The CVCC Paramedic Program is grateful to have the only full ride scholarship at Catawba Valley Community College. This would not be possible without the incredible generosity of David and Johnette Orr, in memory of their late daughter, Stephanie Lynn Gabriel.
Congratulations Class of 2023! We are extremely proud of each of you. Now go kick butt on that state exam!
We are very proud of our CVCC Paramedic Alumni for putting patients first. Congratulations Kayla!
Join me in congratulating Kayla Hefner on receiving the Catawba County EMS Patient Advocate of the Year Award! This is an employee nominated award. Kayla was nominated for her going into each call thinking about what is best for the patient and going above and beyond just medical care to help them with their needs. Thank you, Kayla!
Chris Gettys, a realtor from the area, joined us to present Kayla with a gift certificate for her achievement. We are thankful to Chris for helping us celebrate!
Happy international firefighters day to all our friends on the fire service. CVCC Fire & Rescue
It’s almost the end of the semester for students. Our second years are so excited to graduate. Our first years have almost made it through one of the most challenging semesters they will face. Not that paramedic school is easy at all. Our first years were invited to a training structure fire with St. Stephens Fire Department and were able to learn about firefighter rehab. Thank you for allowing us to join!
Thank you to all the alumni that came to our Paramedic Alumni Reunion last night and brought your families. We had alumni from the first graduating class, alumni from the most recent graduating class, and everything in between. Friendships forged in EMS last a lifetime. 42 years of memories and history, 35 years of accreditation.
Don't forget about the CVCC Paramedic Alumni Reunion this Friday. All Paramedic Graduates from 1981-2022 are invited.
Just a reminder, if you graduated from the CVCC Paramedic Program between 1981 and 2022, you are formally invited to the Paramedic Alumni Reunion to be held Friday April 28th, 6pm-9pm in the Tarlton Complex. Certificate, Degree, and Bridging Alumni are invited.
Proud is an understatement for these students. They have shown up consistently and push themselves to their limits plus some. All different fitness levels. All different goals but all of them have one goal in common… healthy lifestyles. Keep pushing on those goals guys! We have some great coaches that help them along the way too. CrossFit Stacked
