Grace Mull, from Hickory, NC, will be showcasing her work in Vision 2022, the CVCC Student Art Show, on Friday, May 6 at the Hickory Museum of Art as part of the Advertising and Graphic Design Program.

“In Graphic Design, I specialize in digital illustration. I have always loved drawing and painting, but through this program, I have learned how to create designs and illustrations using Adobe Illustrator. I appreciate that I have options as to how I can create designs, and my technical skills have expanded past analog paintings.

My dream job is working with a team to create illustrations and layouts for album covers, books, or magazines. I love the creativity that comes with designing, but I also love the challenge of laying out copy and other elements. I work best with a team where we can pitch each other ideas and have a hand in all the elements that go into design and layout.

It is hard to choose just one, but my favorite project was the Catawba Farms Beer series. It was in a team project with designing elements and production elements. This project came with a big presentation, which just made it so satisfying when it all came together at the end.

I can't express how much I value the technical skills I have gained throughout this program. Learning different programs and software had helped me become a better designer, which has always been my goal. I am also grateful for the presentation skills and networking skills will help me no matter where my career takes me.”

Joshua Rodriguez, from Lincolnton, NC, will be showcasing his work in Vision 2022, the CVCC Student Art Show, on Friday, May 6 at the Hickory Museum of Art as part of the Advertising and Graphic Design Program.

“After graduation, I hope to be working in a print shop. My dream job would be to own a screen printing shop. My favorite project I completed while at CVCC is Tune Scout, my app interface.

The most important skill or lesson I have learned is to take everything piece by piece. My greatest achievement during my time at CVCC is developing my presentation skills. My most memorable or favorite moment during my time at CVCC is when my team won the eSports project.”

Today we continue our Vision 2022 Student Art Show highlights starting with Jamie Bruckmann!

Jamie Bruckmann, from Hudson, NC, will be showcasing her work in Vision 2022, the CVCC Student Art Show, on Friday, May 6 at the Hickory Museum of Art as part of the Advertising and Graphic Design Program.

“In graphic design, I really enjoy branding design. I love learning about what makes a brand special, what's important to the company, and what stands out to the clients. After graduation, there are areas I could see myself perusing. I could go into teaching and sharing what I have learned with others. I could go into branding and learn about a brand to create a cohesive design for them. I could also see myself going more into the digital route with web design.

My favorite project I completed while at CVCC is The RedHawk eSport team design. I loved having a variety of collateral needed and figuring out how to make everything, from the uniforms to the arena to pins and keychains, all look cohesive. The final keychain design I made with Adobe Dimension. My team worked with Engineering Technology on campus to get it 3D printed. It was so amazing holding the keychain and knowing I had made it. Throughout the project, I loved working with my team and being able to bounce ideas off of each other.

My greatest achievement while at CVCC is probably placing as a national finalist in Adobe Certified Associate Champion out of 66,000 entries with one of my projects.”

Tristan King, from Newton, NC, will be showcasing his work in Vision 2022, the CVCC Student Art Show, on Friday, May 6 at the Hickory Museum of Art as part of the Advertising and Graphic Design Program.

“In design, I most enjoy multimedia and motion graphics. I've always been interested in video design, editing, and composition, and being able to further this skill at CVCC was very fulfilling. I hope to continually learn and grow through experience, no matter what job I take.

My greatest achievement during my time at CVCC is the Catawba Farms Kombucha label design project. I was given the opportunity to work alongside a team of creative professionals, and with Catawba Farms, to produce a label design that is now used for their product.

The most important piece of advice I would give to someone entering this program at CVCC is take it one step at a time. It's easy to become overwhelmed and frustrated with everything. This is why it's important to step back, take a deep breath, and continue moving forward. ”

Julia Menzies, from Hickory, NC, will be showcasing her work in Vision 2022, the CVCC Student Art Show, on Friday, May 6 at the Hickory Museum of Art as part of the Advertising and Graphic Design Program.

“In my field, I like simple illustrations for the aesthetic of the artwork. I also like social media content creation. I use social media every day, so it is easy for me to pick up on the trends. My dream job would be to work as a social media content creator for either a major brand or an NHL team.

My favorite project I created while at CVCC was during screen printing in the summer. I drew a picture of a lemonade pitcher with some limes and oranges using my iPad. After transferring it to film, I screen-printed it onto a poster.

I want to be known for being a great person to work with. Client relations are so much more important than we think, and I hope I can leave an impact that way.”

Today we continue our Vision 2022 Student Art Show highlights with Baylee Reynolds!

Baylee Reynolds, from Charlotte, NC, will be showcasing her work in Vision 2022, the CVCC Student Art Show, on Friday, May 6 at the Hickory Museum of Art as part of the Advertising and Graphic Design Program.

“In my work, I specialize in illustration and branding because most of my graphic design work stems from being creative through my illustration work. Branding is something that comes easily to me because I can easily envision a brand identity through the creative process.

My greatest achievement during my time at CVCC was winning the eSports and Catawba Farms design competitions. These were both group projects, which also provided me with the ability and skillset to work with team members. This also allowed the exposure to real-world clients and working with the community.

The thing I love most about my field/future profession is the field is constantly changing and it allows for a creative outlet for many people, while still creating jobs.”

Today we are excited to start highlighting the amazing students participating in this year's Vision 2022 Art Show! We will kick things off with Advertising & Graphic Design student Stephanie:

Stephanie Huitron, from Hickory, NC, will be showcasing her work in Vision 2022, the CVCC Student Art Show, on Friday, May 6 at the Hickory Museum of Art as part of the Advertising and Graphic Design Program.

“When it comes to graphic design, I enjoy conceptualizing brand strategy, creating graphics for print and digital marketing efforts, and designing brand identities. My expertise in marketing and delivering effective designs for brands sets me apart from my peers. I can understand what clients are looking for, how to reach the end-user, and create effective designs whether it's creating a logo, poster, or email marketing campaign.

My greatest achievement during my time at CVCC was entering the door on the first day. The opportunity to study graphic design was not an easy option for me to pursue until Fall 2020. Throughout the past two years, I've been consistent in attending class, conceptualizing and designing graphics for the projects, and bridging the gap between my dream and my passion.

Among the different lessons I've learned during the program, one piece of advice that sticks out is: don't compare yourself to others. Especially as designers, we can get caught up in someone else's design being better than yours. Give your all to your projects, put in the work, seek advice, and trust your talent. There's no one better at being you and what you have to offer may mean the world to someone else.”
