In case you are not aware HCS has a 6.9 mill levy and bond on the ballot this november. This will add $242 per $100k home value. Combined with the Norwhich fire levy and library levy that is in effect and if the Franlinc County Children Services levy passes the average homeowner could pay an EXTRA $2,000 in property taxes.

Oh and by the way...HSC has over $84 million in reserves. And 87% of the revenue goes to salaries and benefits.

Not sure about you but I can't afford more taxes. I have reigned in my spending time for the HCS to do so.

Fraternal Order of Police Capital City Lodge #9 Responds to U.S. Department of Justice Review of Columbus Division of Police

COLUMBUS, OHIO 8/19/24 – The Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Capital City Lodge #9 is not surprised by the findings of the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) following their thorough review of the Columbus Division of Police's (CPD) policies, procedures, and protocols. As with every other investigation initiated by Mayor Andy Ginther, the DOJ's report confirms what we have always known: CPD officers demonstrate professionalism and get it right much of the time, instilling a sense of security and trust in the community.

The DOJ report highlights that the majority of CPD's policies, procedures, and protocols are consistent with law enforcement industry standards. It also emphasizes the strength and quality of the training provided to our officers. The report acknowledges the need for technological enhancements. Still, it commends CPD policy, particularly in rendering aid, taking prompt action on and off duty, immediately addressing any misconduct they encounter, and effectively utilizing de-escalation techniques.

FOP Capital City Lodge #9 President Brian Steel commented on the report, saying, "This DOJ report will likely end up on a dusty shelf alongside the Special Prosecutor Garber Investigation report, OSU/Carter Report, Columbus DIG report, Matrix Report, and the initial DOJ report—all of which have had similar findings or more importantly the lack of findings regarding officer misconduct. CPD officers are among the best in the profession. As I have said, misconduct cannot be found where it doesn't exist, nor can it be hidden where it does."
