Participating in the DA BUX program is about more than saving money. When DA BUX participants take advantage of the program, they’re supporting local farmers and local retailers. They’re spending time at farmers’ markets with their families or making their own meals with fresh, local, fruits and vegetables. Not only that, but DA BUX users are finding a way to eat healthier while also stretching their SNAP dollars. The DA BUX program goes much further than just offering 50% discounts. Hear some ways how DA BUX users have been impacted by the program.

06/16/2024

One of the priorities of the DA BUX program is to support local farmers by increasing sales of their produce. DA BUX discounts provide an opportunity for farmers to sell more produce through one of our 59 participating grocery stores and food hubs. DA BUX remains committed to strengthening the local food system, and it starts with supporting local farmers. Hear what some farmers across Hawaiʻi have to say about the DA BUX program.

06/14/2024

As a partner of 59 retailers across the state, DA BUX has become an established part of Hawai'i’s food industry. DA BUX plays a role by increasing sales for local businesses while helping local farmers sell more produce and SNAP customers purchase more local produce. The result has been a robust, positive impact on Hawai'i’s economy. Hear what some of those retailers have to say about the DA BUX program.

ANNOUNCEMENT: The Food Basket is pleased to announce an extension of DA BUX discounts statewide until August 31, 2025.

With the support of strong program advocates, including many SNAP participant voices, we were able to secure enough cash funding from the State and philanthropy to safely extend the program until this date. A huge THANK YOU to everyone who submitted testimony for this year's DA BUX advocacy efforts for the 2024 State Legislative session. Our collective efforts resulted in a $1.5 million annual State appropriation! This is the largest State commitment to the DA BUX program to date.

Funds raised locally are being leveraged in the submission of a federal grant request to the USDA Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program (GusNIP). If awarded, these federal funds will provide the necessary administrative capacity to further extend the program to August 31, 2027. We will keep you informed as we hear any further news regarding the outcome of this grant.

Start the New Year with Fresh Beginnings! Enjoy 50% off high-quality, locally grown produce with DA BUX. DA BUX discounts are extended statewide until August 31, 2024. We encourage SNAP-EBT shoppers to take advantage of DA BUX discounts while they are available.

10/17/2023

ANNOUNCEMENT: DA BUX discounts are extended statewide until August 31, 2024.

The availability of DA BUX discounts are dependent on the availability of program funds. Since 2017, the majority of program funds has come from federal grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program (GusNIP). While we work to secure continuation funding for DA BUX over the next 12 months, we must set a new program expiration date of August 31, 2024. This is the expiration of our active GusNIP grants and the last day we can confidently project our existing program funds will be able to fully support DA BUX operations.

We encourage SNAP-EBT shoppers to take advantage of DA BUX discounts while they are available. DA BUX offers a 50% discount on SNAP-EBT purchases of Hawaiʻi grown fruits and vegetables at participating grocery stores and food hubs. Find a participating location near you at DABUX.org.

DA BUX is a program of The Food Basket in partnership with the Hawaiʻi Good Food Alliance. To stay up to date on the latest program news, please visit DABUX.org.

We invite you to sign on to a letter drafted by our policy advocate, Ulupono Initiative, asking Gov. Josh Green to allocate $3 million to the Hawaiʻi Department of Agriculture's (HDOA) Hawaiʻi Healthy Food Incentive Program, aka our DA BUX Double Up Food Bucks program.

Even though a bill that would fund DA BUX (HB1248) received unanimous support through its four legislative hearings and each floor vote session, the measure, like many others, ran out of time as the session came to a close. Thankfully, the Legislature provided the Governor with discretionary funding for additional programs and services.

Let's not miss this opportunity to provide much-needed support to Hawaiʻi families and local food producers now when it’s most needed. We appreciate everyone who has already helped us get to this point!
