University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo Chancellor Bonnie D. Irwin is launching a new fund to help students access important opportunities outside the classroom. The fund, called the Chancellor’s Fund for Undergraduate Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity, will support undergraduates with expenses like travel for conferences or materials needed for their research.

“My dream for UH Hilo is that every student will be able to do something meaningful outside of class, whether it is research, studying abroad, an internship, or community service,” says Irwin.

Happening outdoors at UH Hilo — FREE!

Accompany us through a fall semester at Welina High, a local school where the students learn that gossip can make or break relationships. Follow newcomer Pikake Thomas as the feisty Beatrice Natto as she attempts to hold back feelings for her enemy Ben Edrick, played by first-time actor Kaleihiwa Pouha. Veteran actors Rayaan Genz and Aliyah Sumera return to the stage as the smitten couple of Claude Iyo and U’i Natto, whose budding relationship is squashed by rumors. Cupid catches some with arrows and others with traps at Welina High.

Join us for Ho Ka Hū: No Ack!, a locally-written adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, by Dr. Justina Mattos of UH Hilo.

This FREE show is presented to you on the front lawn of the University of Hawai’i Hilo Performing Arts Center located at 200 W. Kawili St. at 4:30 pm. July 7th, 8th, 9th, 14th, 15th, and 16th. Bring your own comfortable seating. This performance of Ho Ka Hū: No Ack! marks the 45th year of Hilo Community Players’ annual Shakespeare in the Park and the start of the 2023-2024 show season! This presentation is partnered with a full length version of Shakespeare’s MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING showing on the same dates at 7:30pm.
