The East PTO proudly presents the new name of our teaching garden, located in the back courtyard of our school: The Case Teaching Garden for East Explorers to Learn and Grow. This garden is named after the beloved late Assistant Principal, Becky Case. Mrs. Case was a lover of all things green. She was an incredible partner with the East PTO through its Green Team efforts, coordinating with Holly Hill Farm and of course the Annual Walk/Bike to School Day. But most importantly, she cared about each and every student at East School and helped them grow through her calm presence and love of being an educator.
Thank you to all who attended the Dedication Ceremony yesterday, to celebrate her life and honor her importance to our community. Mrs. Case left a lasting impact on all of our students and staff alike…Her kindness and spirit will forever be a part of the fabric of East Elementary.
Sending our love to Adelia’s family and South Elementary School. We are here for you. ❤️🦋

Looking to support a good cause? Girl Scout Troop 62304’s Silver Award project focuses on improving the mental health and alleviating loneliness of senior citizens in nursing homes. They aim to collect the following items to create “Fun Bags” for residents, visitors, and friends of local nursing homes. These bags will be filled with activities designed to engage the residents.
Please consider donating NEW items such as Mad Libs, colored pencils, large print word puzzles, coloring books, and word searches. A labeled donation bin will be available at East School for your contributions.
Thank you for helping with their project. Your support is greatly appreciated and will significantly enhance the joy and engagement of senior citizens in our community.

Juneteenth Student Art Contest – Call for Student Submissions
In 2024, the national theme for Black History Month was “African Americans and the Arts,” intended to highlight the many impacts Black Americans have had on visual arts, music, cultural movements, and more. As part of the celebration of Juneteenth in Hingham this year, the Hingham Unity Council is inviting all students in grades Pre K-12 who live and/or attend school on the South Shore to share their views on the theme: What does the rich cultural legacy of Black Americans mean to me and/or my community? Students are invited to participate in a competition where they can express or reflect on this through a work of visual or performance art, an essay or other written work. Students are invited to submit an essay, poem, a piece of visual art (drawing, painting, sculpture – any medium of expression is welcome!), a video or original song or other performance to the Juneteenth committee.
To enter, please send your submission to [email protected] by Friday, May 31, 2024. More details at https://hinghamunity.org/student-art-contest-call-submissions-2024/
Please send any questions to [email protected]
Brought to you in cooperation with our friends at Hingham Arts Alliance.

Today our 5th Graders enjoyed a 'WaterSMART' presentation and hands-on activities from the North and South Rivers Watershed Association. Our Explorers moved through six different stations where they learned; where our water comes from, how it is filtered and the importance of conservation. This opportunity correlates to their science unit as well as their upcoming science MCAS. We are very excited to welcome this program back to our East PTO Enrichment calendar after its pandemic hiatus. Thank you to Dr. Donovan, the East 5th Grade Teachers and the parent/caregiver volunteers for helping to make this fantastic morning happen! 💧

Today, Broadway came to East Elementary School in the shape of the Annual 5th Grade Play! The 5th grade classes each performed a Tale from the American Revolution including theatrical interpretations of the Arguments for and Against Colonial Independence from Great Britain, The Continental Army vs. The British Army, the Declaration of Independence and the Boston Tea Party. There was a whole lotta history, some fabulous musical numbers and the students all did an incredible job! The 5th grade play is an exciting curriculum capstone experience that is supported by the East PTO’s Enrichment Program which if fully funded by generous donations to the Annual Appeal from the parents and caregivers at East.
This year, we were thrilled that the Hingham Fire Department let the East PTO borrow one of its giant 4th of July Parade Flags that hangs over Main Street for our backdrop! We also had special guests from the Hingham Historical Society - Executive Director, Deirdre Anderson and Education Manager, Max Nosbisch, who were there to cheer the students on and always proud supporters of Hingham Schools.
Congratulations to all of our little Explorers on their amazing performances…and a special thanks to our 5th Grade Teachers, the East custodial team, the staff at East, Harbor Media and Play Director, Vickie Culligan. So many happy memories made…Learning history through theater and theater through history - Bravo!

In alignment with the Tool Box tool for April - Taking Time - the Kindness Challenge for the month of April is to "Take Time to Be Kind!" While our Explorers have been challenged all year long to do something kind for others, this month we are asking them to slow down, think, and be intentional about being kind when the situation itself is difficult or when someone else is being unkind. When Explorers complete the challenge, they can decorate a Turtle cut-out during library as we all know that Turtles also take their time! These turtles will be added to our ever expanding Kindness Ninja Mural! 🐢☺️🥷
