Thanks to our generous donors the UChicago Medicine AdventHealth Cancer Institute is home to a new GE Optima CT580 RT Scanner! We are grateful that we have this technology available for our patients!

UChicago Medicine AdventHealth Cancer Institute is proud to announce that the newly installed GE Optima CT580 RT scanner is fully operational! Generously funded by donations from the local community through the Hinsdale Hospital Foundation, led by Chairperson Karen Fiascone and Vice Chairperson Matt McGuire, alongside support from UChicago Medicine AdventHealth Hinsdale hospital, this implementation enhances our ability to deliver comprehensive cancer care.

Key features of the scanner include an expansive 80 cm field of view, 4D respiratory gating for precise tumor motion tracking, and artifact reduction to minimize unwanted streaks caused by imaging metals within the body, such as prostheses and dental fillings. With its capability for high-quality, thin-slice imaging for accurate tumor location, the scanner equips our physicians with essential anatomical details crucial for safe and accurate radiation treatments.

Complementing the CT scanner is a luminous sky ceiling depicting a serene spring blossom view, fostering a calming, positive, and healing environment. On Sunday, Neonatologists - Jennifer Hesser, MD and Millen Peev, MD presented to the Hinsdale Hospital Junior Board. They shared what it means to be a NICU doctor, and how they treat NICU babies develop our tiniest patients and support their parents. Afterwards, the Junior Board members made blankets for the NICU babies!

Earlier this week, UChicago Medicine AdventHealth Hinsdale celebrated the NICU renovation project!

The project was made possible by generous donations from the community. The NICU is designed for healthy development, private family bonding and patient safety. The renovated space will provide a state-of-the art healing environment for our tiniest patients and their families. During construction of our new NICU, we will continue serving the most critical needs of infants across the region and look forward to opening our newly redesigned and expanded NICU services in late summer of 2025.

On Saturday, we hosted a medical Mission Clinic in Western Springs, providing free medical care for those in need. The clinic at Lyons Township High School offered medical evaluations across a variety of specialties, along with resources for ongoing care. Medical services included health screenings, diabetes and nutrition education, primary care, podiatry, school and sports physicals, eye exams, dental exams, physical therapy, counseling resources, and more.

AdventHealth associates and physicians, along with many community partners, volunteered their time to put our healing mission in action to extend care to all people. Thank you to our team of volunteers and to Dr. Bela Nand, Mark Bondarenko, Karen Moore, and Lyn Burgess for leading this event.

Associates at our hospital are rallying together to feed hungry neighbors in our community with our Micro Pantry. The pantry, located just across the street at the Hinsdale Seventh-day Adventist Church, 201 N. Oak., is designed to allow anonymous food pick-up for anyone in need.

A micropantry is a freestanding box that holds nonperishable food and is open all the time. This “take what you need, leave what you can” FREE resource allows individuals in the community who may need a little extra help to have access to nutritious food in an anonymous, judgement-free way. Community members can donate or take items. There are no requirements or forms to fill out. Simply put, micro pantries are here to help ensure there is something to eat for anyone that is in need of food.

AdventHealth Hinsdale’s new "How Do Healers Heal?" initiative encourages our health care workers to talk about self-care and reflect on the things in their lives that help them rejuvenate. Coordinated by our Spiritual Care and Healing Arts program, the new display features employee photos and short descriptions of the varied ways they take care of themselves.
