While women's health is a top priority 365 days a year, Women’s Health Month gives us the opportunity to raise awareness for and bring focus to key aspects of women's health. This includes the importance of screenings for breast cancer and heart disease, as well as mental health checkups for anxiety and depression.
Knowledge is power, and when women know and understand more about their mental and physical health they are better equipped to take on the obstacles that can come their way.
Marcia was admitted to Kindred Hospital for respiratory therapy and continuation of medical care. She had received treatment at an acute care facility for a stroke caused by a severe brain aneurysm. Her condition was very critical, and she required complete assistance from caregivers for all her needs. Despite the significant challenges and complications she faced, Marcia made progress with constant support from her family and friends who were always at her side. Under the care of a dedicated team working together to strengthen her lungs, improve heart and kidney function, and restore her mobility, Marcia was weaned off the vent and began recovering her speech and independence. Her rehab therapists helped her recover fine motor skills and strength, increasing Marcia's mobility and self-reliance. With her family faithfully at her side, Marcia was soon back on her feet and walking with a rolling walker. Having met all of her recovery goals, she was ready to be discharged and eager to complete her recovery journey before returning home.
“I love the staff that cared for me here at Kindred so much I want to take them home with me!” Marcia said before she left Kindred.
On National Nurses Day, we're taking a moment to celebrate the wonderful, compassionate and tireless nursing staff we have across the country. The world's healing is due, in large part, to the caring nature of nurses. Thank you for being there for patients, doctors and each other.
This month, we recognize and honor those who work in critical care settings, including our partners in intensive care units across the country, critical care RNs and the many other team members who serve in critical care roles at our hospitals. We are grateful for your continued support of vulnerable patients.
