Smile! Smile! Smile! Tom has been enjoying his retirement since 1999. We were about to celebrate our 75th anniversary. 25 years later and Hazen Paper is coming up on the BIG 100! Tom's message: Smile! Smile! Smile.
“Hazen was grateful to participate in and sponsor the local Joshua Hurst Memorial Scramble at Westover Country Club over Memorial Day Weekend.”
Happy Earth Day from Hazen Paper!
Our unique paper products are created using hydroelectric power right here in Massachusetts. Without wetlands providing power, our way of printing couldn’t survive. Likewise, amphibians like frogs and salamanders rely on wetlands for survival. This Earth Day, Hazen paper would like to highlight the native salamanders of Massachusetts, some of which are just as unique and colorful as our paper products!
Comment below which species you think should be elected as the MA state amphibian, our vote is Red-backed salamander!
“Hazen Holographic teams up with Holyoke Kelly School for Valentine’s Day gifting. Cupids Helpers at Kelly School used Hazen Alabaster wrap to bundle up Sweetie Treats and various assorted V-Day delights for Moms and other assorted Sweethearts.”

Hazen Paper Brings Focus to 2023 Basketball Hall of Fame yearbook with Fresnel Lens .
HOLYOKE, MASSACHUSETTS – Hazen Paper’s 11th Enshrinement Yearbook cover for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts is a light show worthy of the dazzling Dome. The limited-edition 2023 cover, created with Hazen HoloJet® paper, projects an amplified refractive three-dimensional image of a basketball symbolizing the Hall of Fame Dome.
According to Hazen President John Hazen, “once again the Hazen holographic team has raised the bar amplifying the special effects each time to ensure the cover is more exciting than ever.” For 2023, this includes Fresnel Lens technology and a new holographic element Hazen calls “Metal-Morphosis™,” utilizing a new deep-groove system for sharper images and greater dimensionality. Appearing to move and change with the angle of light, the holographic treatment induces engagement and interaction with the book.
Hazen originated the holography completely within its vertically integrated Holyoke facility, for superior quality, performance, and efficiency. The custom holograms were created in Hazen’s holographic laser lab, then micro-embossed and transfer-metallized onto smooth,12-point WestRock Tango C2S using Hazen’s environmentally friendly Envirofoil® and HoloJet® process. The holography is created with an optical structure that is imparted on the surface of the paper (underneath the printed graphics) with an ultra-thin polymer layer that is less than 2 microns in thickness. Envirofoil is a non-plastic paper that is recyclable as paper.
The yearbook cover was designed by agency GO of Hartford, CT, and printed and individually numbered for authenticity on an HP Indigo digital press by Starburst Printing of Holliston, MA. Mohegan Sun Casino also once again used a custom hologram on the backside cover to create a high voltage graphic that radiates energy.
Founded in 1925, Hazen Paper Company is an innovative paper converter specializing in holographic origination, film coating, foil and paper lamination, metallizing, gravure printing, specialty coating and rotary embossing to create specialty materials for worldwide use in retail display and POP, luxury, beauty, entertainment and media packaging, bookbinding, scratch-off lottery and other security-related tickets, tags and cards, and fine art applications. Family owned, run by a multidisciplinary management team, Hazen is committed to sustainability, using hydropower produced by the Connecticut River, with certification to supply converted paper and paperboards that are FSC, SFI and PEFC certified.
Hazen was recognized with a 2023 “Gold Leaf” award by the Foil and Specialty Effects Association (FSEA) for the 2023 Super Bowl Stadium Program Best Use of Holographics. Hazen also received “Product of the Year” honors in 2018, 2019, and 2020 from AIMCAL, the Association of International Metallizers, Coaters and Laminators. Hazen received the “Next Century Award” in 2020 from the Associated Industries of Massachusetts for unique contributions to the Massachusetts economy and the well-being of its residents. "Hazen’s Holographic Calendar for 2023 is ready and being distributed now!! It will blow your mind! The concept for 2023 is “Chariots of Fire” and “Riders on the Storm”! Our Holographic Team has once again out done themselves. Paddy and his team have raised the bar and it is off the hook! The holography features a chain mail cloak for the charioteer and a stunning holographic lens for the flying horses breast piece. Plus many other dazzling features. The design has all the great stuff you all like in the holographic calendars. 2023 is the best one yet. Available in poster size and letter size. Can you believe we just give them away? Hazen started producing a holographic calendar in 2004, so this is number 19. Can you imagine what we have cooking for number 20? It will be a big surprise! “
Another Holographic Cover by Hazen for the 2022 Basketball Hall of Fame Enshrinement Year Book! Paddy Li has once again outdone himself and every other holographer on the planet! The ceremony is just a week away. Starting with the highly anticipated autograph session next Friday. We are hoping to get autographed covers for the Hazen gallery. If you would like a 2022 Enshrinement Year Book put in your request and we will do our very best to shoot one over to you.
For those of you who are aficionados of holography……the 2022 Cover includes a new element that we call “Metal-Morphosis®”. See if you can spot where it is on the cover and impress us with your keen sense detection😉 It is a security feature used to prevent counterfeiting on currency, passports and that kind of stuff. You can see where Hazen is headed!
Hazen Paper Company was presented a Gold Leaf Award by the Foil and Specialty Effects Association (FSEA) at “Amplify: The Print, Finishing and Embellishment Event,” held by FSEA and the Association for PRINT Technologies recently in Minneapolis, MN. Hazen garnered recognition in the category “best use of overprinting foil” for the 2021 enshrinement yearbook produced for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA.
Hazen used custom holography to replicate the brilliant LED lighting of the iconic Hall of Fame dome, employing edgeless Hazen-Lens™ technology to create a pulsating play of light in front of a brilliant radial burst of two-channel holography. Treatment of the Basketball Hall of Fame logo also utilized holography to emphasize the basketball’s pebbled texture against the smooth reflective sphere of the dome. The holography was registered to a tolerance of 1/16” for near-perfect alignment during printing.
Hazen originated the holography for the yearbook completely within its vertically integrated Holyoke facility, for superior quality, performance, and efficiency. The custom holograms were created in Hazen’s holographic laser lab, then micro-embossed and transfer-metallized onto smooth,12-point WestRock Crescendo C2S using Hazen’s environmentally friendly Envirofoil® process. Envirofoil is manufactured with less than 1% of the aluminum of traditional foil laminate, reuses the film carrier multiple times, and is recyclable as paper. Envirofoil has been certified recyclable by bifa Environmental Institute, Interseroh, in Cologne, Germany, and the Lucense Research Institute, based in Italy.
Per John Hazen:
The highest compliment I can pay anyone is to call them a “hard worker”.
Nick Cincotta is a HARD WORKER!
“The Harder you work, the harder it is to surrender” Vince Lombardi
One of Nick’s favorite lines is : “Yes I will do it…. but only for you”. He said that to everyone. And he meant it!
It would take all afternoon and well into the night to recite Nick’s many achievements. And a few jugs of whiskey. Some good ci**rs.
In 2006 when we started up the Osgood Indiana Plant, I sent Nick to Indiana to train the new employees in the “Hazen Way” and help get the new plant off the ground. We had great success in Indiana and starting in 2011 that plant ran 7 days per week for more than 5 years. To this day Nick stays in touch with friends he made in Indiana.
In 2008 Nick was instrumental in staffing and training the new Hazen West Plant at 717 Main Street in Holyoke when we set up the holographic operation. That was a big deal. We had to learn a lot of new operations fast. Complex operations. It was very hard. Nick was absolutely key to our ultimate success. Amazing success!
Osgood and Holographic are BIG milestones in Nick’s career. There are many more. He helped get Housatonic started for example.
Nick always does it right!
Nick is doing retirement right by kicking it off with an epic road trip in his Nissan Rogue (appropriately named) on RT 66. His first stop is Mt Rushmore.
RT 66 is known as “The Mother Road” AND “Main Street USA”. Interestingly RT 66 was established in 1925……just like Hazen Paper Co.
Nick is a “People Person”. Nick cares about people. He personalizes everything he does. If you help Nick, he makes a point of saying “Thank You”. Nick is a family man. We are all Nick’s family. I call him Uncle Nick.
Damn……I am going to miss you buddy!
Nick, being the “company man and all around best guy in the world that he is” gave us more than a 1 year notice of his retirement. Nick worked very hard all year to hand-off and transition his responsibilities in a very orderly manner. WE appreciate that Nick! Thank you!!

We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!!!
**Nick Cincotta's first job fair**
Last week I attended my first job fair on Friday, November 5th at the Eastfield mall in Springfield. This was a job fair for military vets. I was excited to be a part of this job fair and I was looking to hire! i purchased a new outfit for the occasion with the help of my sister Angela who helped me match colors. I was all decked out in my new outfit and ready to recruit new employees for Hazen. I met Sarah Barker and Carrie Moon from HAZEN HR at the Eastfield mall to help set up our table and go over how we would handle talking points on our open jobs. There were many different companies at the fair who were also looking to recruit new employees. Hazen had samples of holographic book covers for football and basketball. We had holographic bookmarkers along with other samples of work that we do at Hazen. We even had pens and candy. We had our list of open jobs in view on the table. We had blank applications on the table. WE WERE READY! As we sat, the minutes and then hours went by as only a few people passed by our table, some stopping to talk. As time went by it was clear to us that the traffic was not coming. Several companies left early. Carrie decided that we didn’t need 3 people to sit at this fair and she left to go back to Hazen. Later, Sarah asked if I could handle the last hour if she went back to Hazen. I stayed the last hour alone. I did have a few vets stop and take an application along with a few of our hand outs and business cards. As I was walking out, I saw companies packing their things and talking about the very low turn out for the fair. It was truly a disappointment. Where have all the workers gone?
It’s About DARN Time!
There is nothing quite as sweet as the smell of hot asphalt being poured on a bad road in October.
For all the Hazen employees who have been tossed and jostled……..enjoy the new ride.
We express our absolute gratitude to Chet Wilson of Wilson Paving. We hereby dub this stretch of American Road……..Wilsons Way.
