MEET THE AUTHOR of "Colonization and the Wampanoag Story," Linda Coombs this Saturday from 2pm-4pm! She will share insights into her research techniques, writing style, and sources of motivation. Additionally, she will answer questions from the audience regarding her book and her personal experiences as a historian of Wampanoag heritage.
This event is free and open to the public so that all can gain an understanding of the Indigenous perspective.
Come and experience the transformative power of sound in the serene setting of Wistariahurst Museum on November 20th for "Mindfulness at the Museum: A SonorousLight™ Sound Bath." The event will feature soothing sounds from crystal and Himalayan singing bowls, gongs, and more, expertly led by Donnabelle Casis.. The sound bath will take place from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm, with doors opening at 6:00 pm and closing promptly at 6:25 pm. The cost to participate is $35 per person, with a discounted rate of $30 for members using the code WISTY. Attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat, blankets, a pillow, an eye mask (optional), and a water bottle. Registration is required and non-refundable, with limited space available.
The City of Holyoke and Wistariahurst presents "Matria," a photo installation by local artist Michelle Falcón Fontanes, opening on November 14 at Wistariahurst Museum. The exhibit highlights the stories of five inspiring Puerto Rican women from Holyoke who have contributed to the community. Funded by the NEFA Making it Public Grant and Mass in Motion, "Matria" showcases these women's resilience as social justice advocates. After its debut, the installation will move to Holyoke’s Puerto Rican Cultural District in Spring 2025. Join the opening event on November 14 from 5 to 7 pm to celebrate these community champions. We are so grateful to be part of a CPA community! They’ve been a major contributor to our restoration efforts which included our repainting of the exterior, electrical upgrades, masonry work, restoring the rotted porch roof, and a portion of the retaining wall. This work would not have been possible without CPA funds and those funds have also been leveraged to get additional funding for these projects. Seize the opportunity to immerse yourself in the vibrant celebration of Dia de Los Mu***os by participating in the 7th Annual Holyoke Community Ofrenda: Calaveras Event with AttackBearPress! On October 27th at 5pm, we invite you to paint your own clay calaveras, which will be displayed at this year's ofrenda hosted at the museum. Thanks to Attack Bear Press, all painting supplies and calaveras will be available for you at the event.
Viewing for the 7th Annual Holyoke Community Ofrenda will take place on October 31st and November 1st from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Additionally, Wistariahurst Museum will host a talk on Dia de Los Mu***os and its cultural significance on November 2nd at noon.

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, here is a 42 year old poster from the Carlos Vega Collection of Latino History in Holyoke. The First Fiesta Puertorriqueña took place October 22-24 in 1982. We have this poster and many more in the city archive available for you to see and for research.

Join Holyoke’s Office of Conservation and Sustainability and Kestrel Land Trust on a guided tour of Anniversary Hill Park to explore the Phase 1 trail improvements.
There will be a shuttle with limited seating that leaves City Hall at 9:45 AM, arriving at Anniversary Hill Park by 10:00 AM. The shuttle will return at 11:00 AM and participants will arrive back at the City Hall by 11:15 AM. Please use the QR code to sign up to take the shuttle. See you there!
