🎉 In celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Shidler College of Business, we're highlighting the memorable experiences of our alumni. Today, we’re featuring Reid Hinaga, BBA ’06! 🎉
Reid's fondest memory of his time at Shidler was the connections and relationships he built through the Business Executive Society of Tomorrow (BEST). "I was very hesitant at first to join and put myself out there, but it was one of the BEST decisions I ever made," Reid shares. "Whether it was at club meetings, events, or just seeing my fellow BESTIES in the hallways between classes, I cherish all of those memories, big and small. Our weekend beach house outings were especially unforgettable!"
Reid’s experiences with BEST have continued to impact his life, as many of his friends have moved across the globe, but they still find ways to stay connected.
We are excited to introduce Jeremiah "Jay" Ana, BBA ’98, President of Young Brothers, LLC, as one of our 2024 Hall of Honor honorees!
Jay heads Hawai‘i’s leading inter-island freight handling and transportation company and has been instrumental in the company’s largest financial and cultural transformation in history. His efforts have been crucial in preserving the safe, frequent, reliable, and affordable inter island transportation services that Hawaiian island communities rely on.
Jay is an active supporter of his community, serving on the boards of multiple nonprofit organizations such as Aloha United Way, Hawaii Foodbank, and the YMCA. In 2023, Jay was recognized as one of Hawai‘i’s Admired Leaders by Pacific Business News and was most recently honored by Hawaii Business Magazine as a “20 for the Next 20” honoree.
He is also the proud father of three children and enjoys coaching his son’s youth football team in his spare time.

🎉This Feature Friday, we congratulate Micah Masei, BBA ‘21, MS '22, on making it to the Olympic Games Paris 2024!
During his time at Shidler, Micah was actively involved with the Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship (PACE), where he developed his entrepreneurial skills by participating in the 2021 Summer Startup Launchpad with his business idea Virtual QB, a football practice device that allows the user to simulate the experience of a quarterback.

🎉 This Feature Friday, we congratulate Tyler Shimohara, BBA ‘21, on his impressive dual roles at Raytheon and the LA Clippers! Tyler Shimohara, who graduated from Shidler College of Business with a degree in Entrepreneurship, has been balancing two exciting positions since graduation. While in school, he was a part of the Business Executive Society of Tomorrow BEST UHM from Spring 2019 to 2021.
At Raytheon, Tyler works full-time as a Shipping Coordinator. He coordinates with Raytheon business programs on shipping materials, generates shipping documents, schedules domestic and international freight forwarders, and handles the shipping of hazardous materials.
Simultaneously, Tyler serves part-time as IT Game Night Staff for the LA Clippers. In this role, he prepares and deploys IT equipment for LA Clippers employees both in the office and at Crypto.com Arena. He installs IT equipment throughout the stadium, including the LA Clippers home and visiting locker rooms, the court floor, video rooms, coaches' rooms, and for any other programs needing equipment.

Maraiah said her favorite Shidler memory, “was being in the Master of Science in Marketing Management (MSMM) program! 🎉 This Feature Friday, we congratulate Ryan Hanscam, BBA ‘18, on his recent promotion to Implementation Manager at ProService! ProService Hawaii
As an implementation manager, Ryan oversees the integration of local businesses into ProService Hawaii’s platform and services. He collaborates with internal and external partners to drive client experience, optimize business processes, and ensure successful adoption of HRMS and new product implementation. In this role, Ryan leads the implementation team in the strategic, technical roadmapping and ex*****on of the onboarding journey for business and employees.
Ryan said his favorite Shidler memory is, “The people you meet along the journey. The people I’ve had the pleasure to meet through Shidler, I still connect and work with to this day. The sense of community Shidler provides during my college experience and beyond has been an invaluable experience.”
A fun fact about Ryan is that he visited Japan before starting his new role!

In her new role, Annika will support the Mauna Loa global marketing team by coordinating and executing marketing activities specific to the Hawaii market. These initiatives aim to ensure continued local success for the Mauna Loa brand, which has more than 45 years of history. Retirement Announcement: Mary officially retired on May 31 after an illustrious career as a Senior Partner for Anthology FINN Partners Anthology Group, dedicating almost 35 years to the company and its predecessor companies. Friends, colleagues, and co-conspirators gathered in grand style to celebrate her incredible journey and contributions to the business community.
Favorite Shidler Memory: "I am a proud Shidler EMBA alumna, and I can honestly say the program helped shape my professional life. The EMBA program at the Shidler College of Business provided networking, mentorship, and guidance opportunities. Our cohort developed a community, and our teachers helped us outside of the classroom by connecting us to industry professionals. Fun Fact: Mary will be continuing on several of the boards where she currently serves, such as the Mink Center for Business Patsy T. Mink Center for Business & Leadership - MCBL, Hawaiʻi Public Radio, American Lung Force Women's Cabinet, and Rotary Club of Downtown Honolulu Additionally, she will be spending more time doing therapy dog work with her Labradoodle Ruby, visiting nursing homes and schools to bring some canine love.

🎉 This Feature Friday, we congratulate Priscilla Zheng-Moore, BBA ‘18, on her remarkable career achievements!
At the end of April, Priscilla became a Brand Marketing Manager at Hawaiian Telcom, where she leads the Connect Hawai‘i program. She connects people to businesses across Hawai‘i by sharing their stories through short videos Connect Hawaii.
Priscilla was officially voted in as the 2nd Vice Chair on the Ad 2 National Executive Leadership team at the ADMERICA Conference in May. In this volunteer role, she will work with young advertising and marketing leaders nationwide as they run their Ad 2 clubs. Ad 2 is a collaborative community of passionate, forward-thinking advertising professionals making a difference in their local communities and industry. Previously, Priscilla served on the local Ad 2 Hawai‘i Board Ad 2 Hawaii.
Priscilla shared her favorite Shidler memory, saying that "The interactions with Hawaii business professionals and my peers helped me leave my comfort zone and lay the foundation for my career."
A fun fact about Priscilla is that she enjoys creating impactful video content that tells the stories of local businesses.

Raoul's remarkable achievements and contributions as senior VP and division manager of the consumer products division at First Hawaiian Bank (First Hawaiian Bank) have earned him this well-deserved recognition.

Coming from a military background, Raoul has learned to apply the same leadership concepts to connect and bring people along with him in his vision. He currently leads 130 people and is responsible for the bank’s consumer products including deposits, credit and debit cards, consumer lending and home equity lines of credit.

This Feature Friday, we would like to congratulate Matt Derouin, BBA ‘17 and MS ‘23, for joining Ulupono Initiative as an analyst on the investments and analytics team!
In his new role, Matt will play a crucial role in providing quantitative and qualitative analysis for various projects and investments considered by Ulupono, furthering the organization's mission of strengthening sustainability and self-sufficiency in Hawaiʻi. He will conduct due diligence on specific companies, industries, and proposals. His responsibilities will include reviewing financial models, pro-forma financial statements, and other proposals to identify strengths, weaknesses, risks, and key assumptions.

🎉 This Feature Friday, we would like to congratulate Grant Kubota, BBA ‘99 and MBA ‘05, senior vice president and financial advisor in the Morgan Stanley Honolulu wealth management office, for being named to Forbes Magazine’s 2024 list of America’s Best-in-State Wealth Advisors!
Forbes’ Best-in-State Wealth Advisors list comprises a select group of individuals who have a minimum of seven years of industry experience. The ranking, developed by Forbes’ partner SHOOK Research, is based on an algorithm of qualitative and quantitative data, rating thousands of wealth advisors and weighing factors like revenue trends, AUM, compliance records, industry experience and best practices learned through telephone and in-person interviews.
This is Grant’s 7th consecutive year that he has received this distinguished honor. This award recognizes his excellence in wealth management services and his professionalism and dedication to his clients. He is a Certified Financial Planner and has been with Morgan Stanley for over 18 years.

🎉 This Feature Friday, we would like to congratulate Jason Thune, MBA ‘02, for being named to Hawaii Business Magazine's 20 for the Next 20!

Past honorees have been described as energetic, innovative, entrepreneurial, talented, intelligent and charismatic leaders of tomorrow. Jason is the VP of fiber strategy and deployment at Hawaiian Telcom. Over his 25 years with the company, he has worked in customer operations, network operations, network planning and IT. Since 2020, his teams have been working to expand Hawaiian Telcom’s fiber broadband infrastructure to rural areas, primarily on the Neighbor Islands. Last year, that included all of Keālia and Lāwa‘i on Kaua‘i, all of Pāhala and parts of Ka‘ū and Puna on Hawai‘i Island, all of Lāna‘i and most of Moloka‘i.
Jason also manages over $68 million in federal grants that fund the installation of fiber broadband at more than 240 local schools. He says another goal is to provide access to fiber broadband for every home and business in the state.
Jason says he’s proud to work for a local company like Hawaiian Telcom, which was founded in 1883. “I want to make sure that I can do whatever it takes so that the next generation of employees can retire, and this company is here for another 100 years.”
